Dragonlaurel's journal- Community Garden

Yeah, it was so sad.

I did get the blood test, and it did not match up at all with how I react. It put some things on the test that I know give me no trouble and left some BIG problem items off the list. Don't waste your money. If you know how to do the elimination diet, use that....with caution. It really only works if you are actually eliminating a food you commonly eat. I wouldn't add a food that you have suspected and have avoided for years.

Definite Allergies-
Peanut- Eaten-all over hives, mouth itchy, throat and chest tight. :sick Inhaled- (not far enough when somebody made peanut butter) = chest and throat tight. Skin Contact - localized hives
Eggplant- blisters inside mouth from it! Retested after avoidance. Same reaction. :( Bye bye baba ghanoush- It was nice knowing you.
Anchovy- throat got tight Fast after 1 bite. Yucky too.
Dust- react enough to prefer wood or tile floors. Vacuuming drives my sinuses nuts.
React to-
Walnuts- too many makes my mouth itch. Bad sign- that's what happened with my 1st peanut reaction. Later reactions were worse.
Tomato, peppers- Cooked makes it worse. Stomach pain then other digestive distress. :somad
Potato- Get away with a little. stomach hurts from much or if there is any green.
Citrus- GI reaction to them- except lemon.
Sodium Nitrate/Nitrite and Aspartame/Nutra$#!t = headaches
SLS - hives

I got skin tested about 20 years ago. All I remember of that list was white oak, timothy grass, dust and bayberry. It was testing for environmental allergens that day.
I can usually avoid most of my list by reading labels. Cooking from scratch is good.

My bean allergy is self imposed, all my others including evergreens have disappeared over the years except for the cats, though some don't bother me at all others will cause breathing difficulties inside of an hour.

About 5 years ago I went on a strict diet and cut out all beer and red meats (I switched to vodka instead). I drank about a case a week and quit cold turkey, not long afterward I developed a rash on my arms and legs of about quarter sized red splotches. The place I worked for had a on-site medical clinic and so ambled up there one day for a look see. The doctor didn't seem to think the diet had anything to do with it and brought out a book that had a picture of the rash to a T saying it was a glutton allergy that typically happens in the 5 decade of life (me being 45 then) gave me some cream and said come back if it persists.

Me being the scientific type decided to reintroduce beer back into my diet at a reduced amount and it cleared and never returned. Psychosomatic? I don't know but will never tempt fate like that again. Also the thought of having to go 100% wheat free brought shutters of terror to my mind and just may have healed myself with the power of suggestion.

Oh if only that were the case and I had a stronger mind!

Self imposed bean allergy. :idunno Don't think we'll find that in the med books. Good luck with the kitties.

Beer was normally from barley. I guess some brands use wheat. Brands without the wheat would have less gluten.

Thought you were allergic to quitting. :lau

:ya I got to play in the dirt today. :celebrate

Still living in the apartment- but found out that the lady who used to do these gardens around the building had to quit. Her health wont allow it anymore. :(
I missed gardening so much and figured out how to make the best of it.

So I volunteered to weed the worst patch I could find. The overgrown stuff was the spring/summer plants and weeds. Most were making seed or dying already. I'm yanking most of them and then the :love Rose bushes wont be hiding and the Lavendar :love will have more room.
Wondering if we could start a community garden around here. Have to see who to talk to about it. . .

That sounds like the perfect project DL! Good lck with getting a community garden established and have fun playing in the dirt :)

Happy Samhain? Halloween everybody !

All this garden work has been bad for the fingernails, and lower back but good for the soul. I forgot to soap my nails before I got started. I got back out there again today. This was a jungle on the edge of the parking area. It's looking much tamer now. The lady that used to do this garden did a great job for years and years but her health went downhill so it had not been weeded since early summer. :he
So I did 9 hours of weeding. It's most of the way done. It's worth it to have access to a garden.

A community garden would be great. I hope you're able to talk to the right person and get it done.
