Wow, thanks for all the replies. A lot of information here to consider and to try.

I have thought before that I probably have Candida in my body. I have even started Candida and gluten free diets before, but I get to feeling better and start allowing myself some favorite foods until I'm back to square one again. Vicious cycle.

A Candida thread would be a good thing.

I just hate that sugar feeds health issues like cancer, but sugar is such a taste pleasing food. :hit

My mom is 77, so she has been on thyroid meds for 52 years. She says they have changed the med/brand only a couple times. She can't recall the first one. There was cynthroid(sp?) and now thryroxine (sp?).

I just recall clearly either a doctor or nurse remarking during Mom's hospital stay a couple years ago that being on thyroid medicine so long has mostly like brought on her line of health issues.

Mom has always be just slightly overweight. She has had bouts of both high and low blood pressure. Migraines. Then it was a cancer scare in the late 70s. Next type 2 diabetes. Then her heart. First stints and then a pacemaker. She's now on a whole cocktail of drugs with them all interacting and no real way to get off any. :(

My stepsister also has thyroid issues in her 30s. Now she has a heart palpatation and something else effecting her balance and such. They've ruled out a lot of things including MS.

So thyroid issues just seem to be step one to a lot of problems in my family. :/

Thank you for sharing that with me. I will definitely do more research on problems with thyroid meds.

Thanks again,
Carrie

THE ANSWER: HYDROGEN PEROXDE

Wax, ear hair, and parasites, bacteria that cause itching can all be solved by this one SIMPLE and SUPER COOL solution that I have used all my life. I am making an Instructable on it tomorrow- funny that I found your post. Anywho, grab a Q-tip, a paper towel and nice place to lay and relax. Put some in the cap and then pour it in the offending ear. You will have an awesome sensation of bubbles that will pull debris out. This includes wax and hair. And it will help kill offending bacteria ect. You might even feel euphoric and dizzy. I call it the ear spa. Look for it on Instructables.com under my user name by Sunday if you want to wait.. or title, Ear Spa. Once the bubbles have slowed down, grab the paper towel and place on your ear, then sit up to drain. It is the best wooshing clean feeling. Now grab your q-tip and CLEAN. I like to dip mine in more peroxide. You will see all kinds of nasty ear hairs and wax. You might want to do this every couple of days for a week or two to make sure you get it all. Larger pieces of wax can break away and bother you... which is why you need to do it ofen for a bit if you have never done this before. Before going to the doctor I would try this. Peroxide is only a dollar a bottle. Hope this was helpful. I might just cut and paste this for my instructable... so I dont have to type this again :)

Update: Went to the ear/nose/throat doctor a week ago. She cleaned out a lot of wax. Said I had some inflammation in there causing the bit of pain I was getting. So, I got a cream for itch and drops for inflammation. I asked what causes this. She shrugged and said ear wax build up in canals that are smaller than the norm.

So, at least for now, I'm feeling better and not so "insane" from itchy ears. :/

ETA: I did try a couple rounds with peroxide, but it seemed to only soften the wax and really stuff up my one ear until I couldn't hear. Might work as a preventative to build up, though.

Oh wonderful, I am so glad you got it looked at and that you feel much better! I have had the same issue with one of my ears. My left ear canal is much smaller than the other. But, back when I had your problem, my doctor shot pressurized water in my ear and solid kernal sized bits of wax came out. You are right- I use the peroxide to prevent little bits from becomming larger bits and then plugging my ear. But I have never let it get as bad as to become inflamed. I cant imagine how you felt! It is a blessing that you went to see an ENT! Glad you got it resolved!

God Bless,

Got

ear wax is a sign of lots of microbes living in the ear. Don't believe me? look at some under a microscope

UGH Thanks, but no thanks. I'd rather not know.

But if microbes, how do you get rid of such a thing?

Tea Tree Oil is a fungicide and will fight parasites. Put 1/2 cup warm water in a spray bottle with 5-6 drops of tea tree oil and flush out your ears.
