aparently the rumble i felt in my zipcode was a 3.0 there abouts, with most of ct feeling a 2.0 or less...

i do know that for this area a 3.0 is a BIG shaker lol, and the 5.8 in Va is aparently one of the biggest theyve had from what ive been hearing/reading...for this general area, this was acutally a pretty big quake!
sure all those folks who get the big ones are laughing at the east coast right now...but still, gotta remember were flat out NOT prepared for the ground to move, we dont have the precautions, building code ect that is in eathquake prone areas...so while somwhere used to big ones would laugh in the face fo an under 6.0 quake, for somewhere Not prepeared for that sized shaker it could have done alot more damage than is being reported.
If I remember you're south of me. Here in the northeast corner I have yet to talk to anyone who noticed it. I have to admit I'm a little disappointed although I probably would have freaked out.

4 years living In So. Cal. I lived threw the massive one in the early nineties. NO THANK you. They are terrifying. I felt like my legs were being pounded into the ground. The swimming pool emptied out one side and then the other. Amazing, and terrifying. My fish were flopping on the floor from the aqaurium. scary stuff.

I'm 35 miles from the epicenter and I was sitting on the floor in the living room playing Candy Land with the kids when we started bouncing up and down. We didn't have any damage here but closer to the epicenter in Mineral, Va the middle school and high schools were both damaged bad enough they closed school down for a week until they could get a building inspector in to examine everything.

Lots of older homes had damage, mostly foundation and fireplace issues. Lots of fireplace damage in Louisa county to a lot of homes. The brick structures just couldn't deal with the movement and crumbled. The worst I've seen was a 250 yr old home that had both chimneys collapse. It was just sad. Most of the damage I've seen came from brick buildings. There was damage to some of the older buildings in the DC area too.

They showed footage from the surveillance cameras in a grocery store in Mineral and it was AWFUL! There was one poor lady that got pummeled in the soft drink section...you could see people running when stuff came flying off the shelves at them. They still haven't cleaned it up. The bad thing is that if we get any wind/rain from the hurricane coming it is just gonna make it ten times worse.

All you people on the west coast can keep your earthquakes, thank you very much :p

I spent 6 months in San Diego and didn't feel any earthquakes and I didn't feel this one in VA. My dad was home and felt it. I think we were in the car. I'm feeling a little disappointed....but lucky. I'm glad you're ok Lori!

we had a 4.5 at 1 a.m. What a way to wake up. There was also a smaller one around 11:30 or so this morning it was around a 2 or so I think (haven't looked it up). I think we're up to 6 after shocks now. Yay.
