That recipe reminds me of the sesame/honey brittle I used to make. You just simmer honey gently until......keljonma?? the soft crack stage....hmmm, is that right? Then I would add raw sesame seeds, because they will toast up in the hot honey and if you use toasted ones, they could get too dark.

Then pour/spread it on a pan to cool, and cut it up with a pizza roller and a sharp knife....mmmmmmm!

Too much sugar for me now, unfortunately.

I just got an idea....need a lightbulb smiley....what about slightly sprouting some wheat, just so a root tip emerges, then dry the grains, and use them in one of the recipes, maybe slightly chopping or rolling the grain a bit first. Like the Energy Zaps recipe or the Energy Balls recipe.

The protein and nutrient profile of sprouted grains skyrockets. Gotta try that "in my spare time!!"

I'm resurrecting this thread because I have the munchies!

I love DrakeMaiden's recipe for the "Zaps". (Zaps--love it!) And I love freemotion's lightbulb idea of sprouting the wheat first and then drying them or dehydrating them?

Freemotion, if you catch this, would you mind being more specific about the sprouting? I did it way back in collage for about a minute, but can't really remember the process. And do you dehydrate them or just dry them and for how long?

Also the powdered milk, what would you guys sub for this?

Thank YOU!

Pickled eggs are my current favorite snack. They are pretty much instant, and no dishes! After they are made of course.

Missed this, BBH, must've gotten lost in all the silly fun over the last couple of days!

Thanks for reminding me...I've been thinking about making bars again, but couldn't remember what the idea was that I'd planned on using! It stinks to get old.....

So, you put the seeds to be sprouted in a container with some water, room temp or cooler, not hot. Soak overnight or for 24 hours, then drain. Keep it out of direct light, and rinse once or twice a day. I find I need to rinse more often in summer, less often in winter, as my house is cold.

If you add whey or a TINY bit of ACV in the initial soak, you can speed up the process a bit. Gets rid of the germination inhibitors more quickly. Too much, and you pickle the seeds, though.

For wheat for this purpose, I would just sprout it to the point where you see the tiny bit of root emerging. Then I would use the dehydrator or spread them out on baking sheets in a very low oven, as low as you can get it. Or maybe I would toast them lightly if I was making a bar that wasn't going to be cooked.

Need to experiment. I'm going to put some wheat in to soak today.

I just left the powdered milk out when I made the Zaps and they tasted like I remembered (I didn't miss the powdered milk). I enjoyed these almost as much as I did when I was a kid.
