I'm kinda high on life tonight.
Good for you!

I have a sister who is painfully frugal, but so bad with money that her and her husband (also bad with money) are always painfully broke. It's hard to watch. They make much more money than our parents, but they are frequently asking them for money. My parents are finally beginning to say no. (Then they run to his parents.)

My parents have helped me. I worked my tail off as a single mom. Frustrated with the rat race, barely making ends meet, so I went back to school. Which caused me to lose my job a month into the semester, lose my son's childcare, and nearly lose my home. And given my disability, I also ended up hospitalized. Very fun times. (sarcasm)

I moved to cut expenses, dropped out of school (6 months later) to stay home with my son. I ran out of options and was expecting foreclosure in 30 days. My parents leased my house at cost and have it on the market. If they make a profit, they keep the $. I didn't ask them to do it - it was their choice.

My income: barely enough to pay for my car. (My fiance takes care of his house payment, utilities, groceries, etc.) Sometimes I can earn extra money to save or spend. My monthly income rarely is more than $100 extra. I paid off (how many ?!) thousands of dollars of debt? Have about $1,000 saved. (After splurging $500 on a new dog!) Plus my IRA. It's small numbers, but compared to my income, it's a HUGE accomplishment that I'm proud of.

I never asked for help - and I think that is why I got it. I admit I have what appears to be an "easy" life. But I also have an invisible disability that has interfered with me being able to work. I'm still to stubborn to apply for SSI, even though if I did get it, I would have a decent amount of money to bank for my son's college, or whatever else.

I DO usually get everything my way. Be NICE to people, but at the same time, go out there and MAKE IT HAPPEN! Ask for help, CREATE your future! (And evil manipulation skills are good if being nice doesn't work.)

Thank God I don't have to scheme to get what I want. ;)

Take that trip The Wife and I took to Lehman's Hardware a couple of weeks ago on a Saturday morning. I spent 3 hours shopping the store with her, bought her a nice new crock for making kraut, and few other items. Then we had a very pleasant lunch at an Amish restaurant before returning home.

Tuesday morning, a brand new pistol magically appeared in the gun safe and she was tickled to death to see it. :D :D :D

I just got off my tractor. Punched 12 new holes for replacement fence posts with the Kubota. Snagged a section of chain link fencing on the next to last hole, and pretty much destroyed it, not to mention it was wrapped around the auger about 10 times. Took me an hour in this 90+ degree 75% humidity just to get it untangled from my tractor. My nutsack is petty much melted and stuck to the tractor seat. It is 10:30 Ohio time. Give me 15 minutes to get a cup of coffee and compose myself, and call me then.
