Good luck! I found plans for them on Mother Earth's site
Ag. Extension office's have them online too. I saved and printed those for free. Loved that price. The ME ones seemed like they would be easier to build though.

I meant I have to talk him into it first ;) You know do some arm twisting. Show him the benefit of having one, etc
Sometimes I get lucky and they recommend it on a tv show he appreciates. LOL

Hahaha, yea. It's like that here all the time. I will be quoting all sorts of sources and try to talk sense, but until he sees it on tv....
I might as well be talking to the chickens
Hey Missy, have you abducted my husband? If so, please knock some sense into him before sending him back :gig

He's good about growing them, it is storing them in a way that you do not need to use energy that he doesn't consider. He even helps with dehydrating and canning.
But he has this thing about wanting a deep freeze, as if that is all that is needed. We have emergency kits of all kinds and all over, but he doesn't realize when the power goes, so will all that food in the freezer. And that the power will go out even in a minor SHTF situation, like an earthquake or a really bad storm or flood.

Don't get me wrong, I would love a deep freeze. I just would feel better if we had a root cellar too. We have no celler at all, being that this is sunny California

What a glorious day today!!
The sun was out and it got really warm. Felt like summer :weee

The day started with me waking up and realizing I slept in. While I was having my 3rd cup o'coffee, I heard SO talking to someone outside. Turns out a friend we haven't seen for a while had stopped by. It was real nice to see him. He isn't exactly homeless, because he does have a place. The place just happens to be out in the open in a field. He has the owners permission to stay there. He said he made sure he got it in writing, so that when the police harrass him, he can show them the paper.
This man has been living on "the streets" for as long as I have known him. People have put him up, but he always ends up back on the streets. He is a nice gentle person, but just cannot stay away from the booze. So we visited for a while. I gave him some canned dogfood for his old dog. I had to convince him that we didn't need it and that I was going to give it to the Humane Society anyway. Then it was time to get some chores done.

I cleaned out the rabbits pen and snuggled with our bunny for a little while. Then I replenshed his fruit tree sticks and refilled his weedbin. I sat and played with the chicks, I weeded, and sat and enjoyed the yard, I weeded, I dug up some carrots and washed them, helped SO weed, turned some soil in the field, to uncover the earthworms for the chickens. That was fun. I put up a new perch in the henhouse and sat inside the henhouse watching the bedtime ritual. The little chicklets hopped on me to hop onto one of the perches, then they flew back down. 5 of them figured out how to get to Susie in the nestbox and squeezed in with her. The rest decided to snuggle up on the floor next to the igloo, instead of in it.

It was so nice to see all the critters outside mingling. I am thinking of putting the rabbit on a leash and taking him for walks in the field. I don't know how well that would go over with him though. He doesn't like being picked up, but I think he would love to eat all the goodies that grow out there. I'll keep thinking about it.

Sounds like a nearly perfect day!

Very kind of you to share your dog food. I always wonder about homeless people. In our area there seems to be lots of help, but many don't take it and I always wonder why. I have heard that a large portion of the homeless have some mental issues. Regardless I always feel bad and try to give them a few dollars if I have it.

We got some rain today, supposed to be lots more tomorrow!

Yuck on the rain. It is amazing how energetic I felt today. It got up to 70 :ep

A lot of homeless people have pride too and don't want to accept handouts. Our friend would not have accepted the dogfood, if he thought we needed it ourselves. I have known him for about 15 years. SO grew up with him. They lived in the same neighborhood.
Sometimes when he comes around he'll ask if we need some work done for a meal or a few dollars. We find work for him to do and at least feed him. He manages pretty well. He is very polite and is carefull not to push the envelope too much. There have been times, when we have let him use our shower, because he couldn't get to the Y to shower. Like I said, we've know him for a long time and he is a good person. He just can't and won't stay away from the booze and I am sure he has his reasons.

I am good tired, and a little sore. And very hungry. SO and I have both been working outside all day and neither of us feel like cooking dinner. I think I'll just start by cooking up some frozen beans and we'll see where it'll go from there
