Just wait a lot of the name brand stuff is making it so u have to be a certified mechanic to work on it. John Deere is one of them along with different furnace manufacturers. Not only will homeowners not be allowed but smaller companies that work on multiple different things wouldn't be aloud unless they attended all the classes

Also what about different things that u have to buy and pay a monthly fee using their app to run your device. A lot of exercise equipment is already that way. And other things that u use and app on your phone for

Exactly, still using my 13 year old laptop with a local version of Quicken because I refuse to buy the new cloud version with a monthly fee.

things like this are why i love plain text accounting. nobody can lock you into paying fees for access to your own data. the downsides are that there's no tax forms or built in stuff unless you can find someone who's already done it and get it that ways and there might not be an easy export/import process from your bank/etc. i do my own taxes and they aren't complicated so this isn't a bother to me. i like not giving yet another company hooks into my personal data. i also don't have a huge number of transactions each month and many of them are repetitive so i can do copy and paste with a bit of editing and be done with it.
