How many potatoes do you harvest planting them like that? It sounds like a very good way of doing it. I hate hoeing potatoes,..it is such a job. Last year we planted 5 eighty foot rows. We harvested about a bushel and a half a row. As I speak,..we are almost out of potatoes. WE ate that many potatoes this winter,...we did give some away,..not many though. We like our potatoes and eat them for just about every meal ..fixed many different ways. I know,...sad isn't it?? :D This year I am not planting any potatoes,..I am supporting our local farmers and going to our local potato/pumpkin farm and buying potatoes. It will be cheaper and a lot less work,....yes,..I have become lazy. Only thing I am planting is a few tomatoe plants in my raised bed DH built the other day,..and maybe a cucumber or two ;).

What a beautiful tree! What kind of fruits will it have?
It is a grafted tree so there are several kinds of fruit (from the same basic family) on the same tree. It has normally apricots, nectarines, peaches and plums, however like I said earlier I think the peach graft died this winter. There have always been far more apricots and nectarines than anything, so it was probably grafted onto apricot rootstock. This tree is a dwarf and about 10 - 12 feet tall. It is also about 10 years old now. I bought it from Michigan Bulb for about $12.00 and it was a stick when it arrived. The main problem with it is it blooms VERY early and in our area the blossoms freeze off every second year or so. Still it is a lot of fun and produces a LOT of fruit ... usually around 50 or 60 pounds a year or even more.
I saw one of those tree's in a catalog a couple of days ago - I think it was Farmerseed catalog. Sadly they're only for zone 5 and up. I'm in Zone 4 so it would more than likely die even if I kept it in a sheltered spot.
