So yesterday, while working in a DGen, I noticed their egg prices are at $6.95 dz now. It's become a fun watch thing. 😂 I don't share that with the girls lest they strike for higher wages. Just collect, say thanks & remind them I'm the giver of food.

But on the way home, I stopped at a new Publix -- recently added to our area. 25 miles from home, so not a shop but, curious. Beautiful store! Area of prepared foods, high end stock, etc. enticing offerings. Then on to meats. OMG what a grand display of perfect cuts. 😍 Prices high as everywhere but if I wanted to spend, that's where I'd go! Many offerings that aren't at every store.

Went home with 8oz of Brazil nuts. 😊

At Trader Joe's in Federal Way yesterday. Large brown eggs were cheapest at 3.49. Extra large white were 3.99.

One of the better prices I've seen.

Chicks are almost unavailable. Feed store says they sell out same day they get them in. I'm going to get some new ameraucana from a breeder. My silkies are providing plenty for us. Even the ravens are getting some again.

ravens!? yikes!

Two of them live around here. They chase off hawks. Chase off any crows as well as crows also like eggs. I keep chicks penned. We live in peace. If they see me they will fly circles and call to me for snacks.

They do mock my reactive dog if he's not penned. Will fly back and forth from corner of property to the stand of trees by the pond, about 400 feet and yell at him. He barks his fool head off and chases. He knows they are allowed here. He reacts the same to motorcycles and helicopters.

I've learned... FB goes "radio silent" for a time. Then she will come and overload me with information. I'm like slow down there, can I have the readers digest version please? Maybe my readers digest refrence is showing my age. But my brain can only retain but so much information 🤯.

A couple weeks ago she approached me all about grain and when I say all, I mean all. Today she got her new stone grain mill. I haven't seen her this excited in a while.

She told me she ground 2 cups of white wheat berries and got 3 1/4 of flour. She has dough rising enough for two loafs of bread.

Same kind of volume increase thing happens when I grind corn to finish our steers. Strange how that works...

Anyways here's her new grain mill she really likes it. 👍

I suspect she'll be growing our own acient wheat sooner rather than later.

Well... Last night FB made two loafs of bread using berries and her new grinder. She was disappointed the loafs didn't rise correctly for the second rise. She may have been disappointed but far from discouraged. She's back at it again this afternoon.

The loafs are smaller than her sandwich bread, which she was trying for. But oh my the loafs she made with fresh ground white wheat berries is 100 times more flavorful than with pre ground storebought flour. If I would have to describe the loafs. I would say it's snack bread. A smear of butter on a slice is brand new flavor experience for me, so good 😋

Slice before butter, I actually got a craving for it while working.

Attempt #2... we taked about it last night and she's going to do a finer grind for this second attempt. Yes this is the true color of white wheat. Funny how storebought flour is white but white wheat berries are not. Makes my wonder a lot...

for bread making with store flour we normally use unbleached flour which has a lot more flavor going for it. and we also add some cracked wheat for some more texture.

they also used to water down milk and put chalk in it.

Yes they did. There was a reason that the book "the Jungle" created such an uproar to the point that food safety laws were created as well as the Food and Drug Administration.

Food producers can't be trusted to do what's right without oversite
