Good for you DawnSuiter for your free ranging meat birds. This is exactly what I have decided to do this past winter as I was contemplating possibilities.

I hadn't thought to charge more for chickens with skins. That seems reasonable considering all the extra work.

You can purchase an organic chicken (but free range organic who knows?) for about $10 for a 4 pound bird so thats what I was going to base prices on.

You know, those birds with skins will be extra nutrious because there is so much good stuff in chicken fat. I gave up eating chicken skins a long time ago cause in commercial chickens all the hormones and toxins build up in the fat.

What kind of birds do you raise and how long from egg to slaughter?

This is what I am hoping to do for farmers market next year. Don't know the laws but You can always sell the bird live I think then slaughter it for them. Either way, I think I can sell to neighbors with or without a farmers market. No one is doing this around here.

I sold a few herb bunches but there were a few issues.

1) The lady I gave the stuff to left it in the zip lock bags instead of displaying them on the tray

2) People loved looking at and smelling the herbs but have NO IDEA HOW TO COOK WITH THEM!
:th

Time to make up some recipe cards! :gig
AND a display

Easy enough :p

Maybe you should dry the herbs and sell them as rubs or seasonings. Thats the way most people see and use them..

I have some herb books and I will comb through those. I think a pesto recipe is a must. Then maybe an fresh herb to dry herb chart. Those are easy to find.

Yesterday, since I had an abundance of squash, I gave out handouts of squash recipes. We sold almost all our squash. Today, I need to pick it again. :barnie
