I will still offer the game bird feed...I buy it for the quail anyway...but the plan is to offer some whole grains on the side. They are liking their steam crimped oats. I need to see if the Big R also has wheat of some sort. I have room for the extra feeders so don't mind offering a buffet until i can figure out what they like, how the egg production is doing, etc..

As for the quail, in the wild they eat seeds. I have found some really good deals on finch seed so started picking up bags. Lately they have been hitting the seed cup more than their feed. The birds look great :D

Free ... or anybody else :D ... do you use any supplements? I was reading other sites on this subject, and ran across the need for methionine in particular, and other trace elements in general.

Since my birds free-range on a couple acres, I don't worry about it. BOSS will supply that, though.

I also give meat/bone scraps after making broth, and fat scraps after rendering lard and suet. If I do any of these during "bug season," I freeze the scraps for use in winter.
