Last Saturday I had a little time, so I stopped at the bank parking lot where I had been watching a large pecan tree. Sure enough the lot was covered with pecans, a lot of them run over and mashed. They were native pecans, so maybe no one wanted them because they are small and stinkers to shell. I picked up about 1 1/2 gallons of pecans. I shelled them while watching TV this week and now have 1 1/2 quart zip lock bags of tasty, free pecans in the freezer. Yummy :drool

Wow!!!

I need to plant some nut trees. I was just whining about the cost yesterday.

I wonder if there are any trees in my area???

Can't go wrong with fruit and nut trees. Ihave the fruit part taking care of, but I really want some hazelnut trees. I just can't find a place to put them without creating too much shade for the garden beds. Maybe I could grow them in the duck pen...hmmmm....

The problem I found that was when I researched trees most are "undeliverable" to Ca.

I need to go to a local nursery and order through them.

Just have not gotten that far.

If it wasn't for the seed pods, I'd like to have some chestnut trees. But, I can do w/out those prickly pods!

I wish we could have nut trees up here.
Thankfully we can do apples.
Alaskan apples are quite awesome, and we intend to get some stock when the time is right.

I went back to the bank parking lot today and picked up 2 more gallons of pecans! Last year I spent $40 buying pecans, this year they are free.

Aren't hazelnuts on bushes? The wild ones are, at least...
