Good grief, who can argue with free bacon? Go get your pig, girl! The first of many, I assure you....once you taste that acorn-finished pastured pork and bacon, you'll be hooked!

That first "knife and fork" pic has PIC of the Week written ALL over it!!
I was thinking the same thing.

Free, have the young men who do the butchering seen the pigs?

I bet they would be very impressed.

I emailed some of today's pics and have emailed periodic updates and pics. As for POW....hee-hee, thanks for the compliment, I'll tell dh his photographer skills are appreciated here. He does take some great shots. Whoever does POW's is welcome to any of mine but I won't submit them specifically anymore. I found it enormously fun to open up this site one day and to see a baby pic of Ginger in the POW spot. That I hadn't submitted. That was so much fun!

Woohoo!!!! Yippee!!!! Yeehaw!!!! We are home free now. Today we picked 14 sacks filled to overflowing with field corn. It is not quite ripe yet, still in the milk stage, but it is yellow and has kernels the size of sweet corn. We hope to get more tomorrow and Tuesday, just keep picking every day that we have time and every day that it is not raining and try to keep ahead of the farmer. He will follow us and harvest the stalks to sell as fall decorations. Last year we followed him and picked up the ears off the ground....this way is easier on everyone.

The pigs went NUTS! When we started tossing the corn over the fence, they started running and spinning and doing their happy dance. Then they all got serious about making that corn disappear.

Next will be the acorns! C'mon, acorns!

Free bacon!!!!! Two and a half months or so of free pig food, coming up! And when the pigs are at their biggest, too. The best part is that I can finish them on wholesome food and quit getting the white bread. All the free prepper canned goods are gone....the powdered milk, pudding mix, dried and dyed fruit, etc.....fake and toxic "food." But fattening! From now on it will be fresh, whole foods. Ears of corn, acorns, grass clippings, pumpkins and squash, and various garden leavings, supplemented on occasion with boxes and pails of banquet leftovers from the fancy restaurant, including lots of salmon and baby salad greens. Those pigs will be eating almost as good as we do!

He'll be harvesting the field corn that is left after selling as many stalks as he can. That stuff goes for big money around here.

Today I picked grapes and brought along a five gallon pail to stand on. Glad I did. On the way back I spotted some dumped tomatoes and a large squash and filled my pail, and walked it over to the pigs. They immediately dove into it like they hadn't seen food in a week! And they were standing in corn carnage! :p It is so good to see your critters just eating and eating....I sat by the fence to sort my grapes instead of going home. I tossed in all the raisins and icky grapes. The pigs sought them out. These four love variety.

Meanwhile, my goats were in the next section of the field, mowing down the lush new growth we've had since the hurricane and all the rain in the past couple of weeks.

After I got home, I found a message on my phone. The restaurant guy had three big boxes of food waiting for me. I feel like dancing! :weee
