My Dh loves fried green tomatoes. The way I do them is cast iron skillet with oil. Enough to fry with...oil is your choice but we like peanut oil. Slice maters then dip in beaten eggs. I make a half and half mixture with flour and cornmeal. Coat egg dipped maters well. Then fry until golden brown and crispy.

Dang now I'm hungry.
Good luck. They will become a family fav. like they are down here.

Ok, so I learned 2 things today. You can cook lettuce. My lettuce is getting bitter so I was looking to see if there is a way to take the bitterness out of the lettuce, and ppl said cook it.

And, you can fry cukes. Who knew?????

PS, for those of you who also want to know how to get the bitter out of lettuce and dont want to cook it ( i wouldn't even know how...) you can soak it in water with a splash of vinegar and let set for about an hour, then spin and mix.

I ran out of time today, but my stomach rumbled ALL DAY thinking about it!!! DH is getting on a plane on Wed so I will be feeding myself for a few days. Bring on the crispy fried foods!!!! I can't wait!

So....how green can a tomato be? Mine are pretty small still. I have some small plums and some small Brandywines...

Peaches are starting to show up at the farm stands....

I have plenty of zukes growing...nine big ones to shred (and freeze, but first a batch of fritters!) and a bunch of little ones growing....

Oh, I can't wait! :drool

Most people say green tomatoes are best when they are just almost ready to turn red. Sometimes they are getting color inside when you slice them. Too green and they are quite tart.
