Praying mantis eat them.
Ordered! I've never seen a praying mantis here - so I hope I didn't just waste my money. But - it's worth it if it helps. I'll still put up some kind of physical barrier but just having something that might actually bite one of those nasty critters is worth it!

train goats to eat them. supposedly goats eat anything. so perhaps they taste bad? if you give them a treat for every few bugs they eat then perhaps they'll develop a taste for them afterall? i mean if humans have developed a taste for hot peppers, juniper berries and cheese that smells and tastes like dirty socks then who knows what the limits really are?

i am still working on my project to teach the birds to eat japanese beetles... :)

Lol - nope! I don't have any bug eating goats here... darn!

Rain coming tonight so I guess today I need to mow. Mowing in February (March actually) - what's up with that? Crazy I tell ya! We are supposed to get some cooler weather for a few days with the rain. Also heard in the 10-day forecast that there'll be another, more powerful cold front coming in around the 10th...just in time for spring break, I guess.

More tomato seeds are popping up. Peppers haven't decided to wake up yet. They'll get there eventually.... or at least they better! Glad I didn't jump the gun on warm weather planting in spite of thinking about it.

Picked up 20 more cinderblocks yesterday. Those things are heavy! I unloaded half of them yesterday before I needed to feed. I'll get the other 10 taken care of this morning. Need them out of the truck and where they need to be before the rain gets here. Yay for an early morning workout.

Time to get out and milk.

Crazy, crazy day!

I got the rest of the cinderblocks unloaded. Had to move some of the ones I unloaded yesterday to have a place to put these. Started noticing a lot of sirens in the vicinity. Sounded like they were coming from all directions and they were all stopping right around the corner from me. I live about a half-mile off of a well-traveled road. Few minutes later I hear a helicopter. I thought it was Life Flight. However...it was a news helicopter.

Seems that someone from several towns over stole a truck and ran from the cops. He came right through our little town- right past the end of my road and hit spike strips that the cops put out at the next intersection. He wiped out and when he started to get out of his stolen truck with a knife in his hand he was shot by the officers on the scene! Eighteen shots...

He was evidently not a nice guy as he rammed an officers vehicle and a civilian's vehicle too. It was his last bad act as he did not survive the altercation. I predict that this will be a "big deal." The video from the helicopter and another one from a witness did not show the driver attacking the officers - as they claimed. I dunno.... Feel bad for alll involved.

Just a little while ago I got a call form my DD. I could tell by her voice she was upset. "Mom, I love you! We're all in the bathroom because the tornado sirens are going off." Holy Crapoly! Talk about a your heart in your throat moment! Thankfully, it's a fast moving system that passed over them within a half hour and all is well.

We've got the same weather system heading our way and will be here in a few hours. Got the yard mowed just in case. Hopefully, it will stay a bit north of us. However as hail is predicted I had to rearrange some critters. I wonder if I have enough adult beverage in the house to sleep through it?

I saw that on the news. It’s a bad deal all the way around.

That storm is predicted to hit here in 40 minutes. I think I’ll go to bed and read. Maybe that will put me to sleep.

What are the cinder blocks for?

Storm went north of us - yay. Really windy out there but no rain. I'm ok with that for now. I can work in the garden without mud boots!

Re-building my raised beds. The cedar boards we used way back when have given up. Hopefully, this will be a permanent solution.

I've got 40 blocks so far. Need more...ugh. I'm phasing out my big blue mineral tubs and using that dirt to top off the raised beds again. They've settled over the years. Enlarging them also.

I have some big pine logs. Going to drag them in place and use them for raised beds. A couple of local never do wells, wanted to cut up a huge downed oak tree for firewood, which they did. They left a big pile, a neighbor is going to come get it. I told these yay-hoos if they would cut down the big pines in the fence line, they could go sell them at a sawmill. They hauled off 4. 4 logs and left the rest on the ground. Neighbor suggested raised beds and I like that idea. I hate things going to waste and this will work for me. I was thinking cinder blocks, but logs are down, free and will last awhile.
