That's great on the pigs. How many piglets are you selling?

Good luck with the trailer insert!

The guy wants TWO piggies!!! YAY.

I WISH I could have a camera for my goat barn... We have lousy, terrible internet service here so unless we run a hardwire - not gonna be a camera any time soon...:( But, I have a newly cleaned out storage shed in the backyard that just might be turned into my kidding pen this season. Thankfully, most of my goats kid during the day so it's not so terrible to take a day off of work and deliver kids in daylight.

Hoping the trailer insert works out. I've wanted one of those ever since I found out they existed!

lol - I'm such a ditz, lol. I've got 7 piggies left. Don't really care if I sell them ALL...but I sure want to reduce the feed bill a bit. Thinking about butchering both boars and keeping one little male - or not! Will definitely get lotsa pics of babies. May even break down and do a kidding thread... maybe.

I think I talked DH into guinea hogs! He didn't like them because he butchered some that were mostly grain fed (I should say over fed) and all fat, but I think I've convinced him they're not always that bad, if you don't overfeed them. Plus he knows I need a bunch of lard if I'm going to get into soap making. Yes!

So I'm very curious to hear how butchering goes!

I wonder how many people hear guinea hogs and think of guinea pigs? Have to butcher a bunch of them to get much meat, let alone lard.

Lol - true Deb!

Well, I'm supposed to go pick up my trailer insert on Sunday! I don't want to get too excited until money exchanges hands and it's on my trailer at my house!

College closed at noon today so I just took the whole day off. Got a few of my gals wormed with Ivomec Plus. Got one of the bucks wormed and pretty well wormed myself too. Dusty, the Nubian buck decided to spit his all out the first time...grrrrrr! So, I got it all over my hands. I pulled up another dose for him and got some of that on me too. I wonder how much of that actually soaks through the skin even though it wasn't the pour-on type? I noticed Dusty didn't eat his dinner very heartily - and I noticed that my stomach was wonky for an hour or so, lol. All in my head? Probably, lol.

Oh well, nothing that a glass of wine won't fix!

Well, it's been a day! Since I'm picking up trailer insert tomorrow we needed to do something about the lack of lights on the lowboy. Not that the trailer didn't have lights - they just didn't work. Cowboy at his best I guess...maybe pigs....maybe just dry rot? But the wires were broken in several places, hanging loose and just a general mess. So, DH (who is usually not a 'handy' guy) re-wired the trailer!!! (with just a little help from me when it looked like it was gonna get dark before it got finished) But, I have working lights again - woo hoo! Now I can get it inspected and get tags for it and be mostly legal again!

Sold a pig today too....and still have that guy who is supposed to get two of them in a few days. YAY! I'll get one of the boars butchered one way or another cuz once I've got the trailer I'll be able to take him to the processor since I think it's just not gonna get cool enough for home butchering...and my busy neighbor isn't getting any less busy these days. He's been out of town all weekend, and I know he's gonna be gone all of spring break to. Time to take matters in my own hands and get this taken care of one way or another.

Went ahead and separated the piglets from their mama's today. They are way overdue for weaning! Geeze the first batch was born on 11.22.16 and the next set on 12.16.16 if I remember correctly. I'll bet the mama's will appreciate the break - or not - lol. They didn't show any signs of trying to wean them on their own and they've held their body condition very well. Maybe I should just let 'em stay together - sow's milk is free protein, right? I dunno, I'll sleep on it and decide in the morning.

Time for a nice relaxing glass of wine!
