It's 10:30a and it's still below freezing....29 last time I looked. We're supposed to get up to mid-ish 30's and then another hard freeze tonight. I can safely say that I am NOT a cold weather person - even though I enjoy cool temps over non relenting heat if I get a choice. ut, if I don't get a choice, I'lll still take temps of 100 over temps of 20 any day! I never thought I'd say that either, lol. 'Course if there was no such thing as AC I'd change my tune real quick, lol!

Got some sad news. A really good friend of mine who moved away from the area about 20 years ago just lost her older daughter. She had two daughters - the one she lost was born with severe spina bifida and lived her life paralyzed from the chest down. She lived a very long life for a SB patient. She was nearly 40.

My friend and I kept in touch for years after she moved, but the last 5 years or so we mostly kept in touch through our daughters. My daughter and my friend's youngest daughter have been best friends for over 25 years, since they were toddlers basically.

Such a sad time for the family. Even if you know your loved one has a limited life span it doesn't make it any easier when they pass. I hope they can find some measure of peace knowing that their child has no more challenges. :(

Not above freezing today. Maybe tomorrow....

Sorry about your friend. Even knowing that one has a limited lifespan it is hard to come to grips with when that life is gone.

We hit a whopping 34 degrees! It has been a beautiful, clear blue skies kinda day....just cold.

I've been trying to get ready to go back to work tomorrow. When mom and dad were here I didn't have a minute to do any extra stuff - but today I've pre-cooked some breakfast items. I took pan sausage and made little links to roll up in a crescent roll and also made a batch of biscuits and sausage patties to put together for grab and go breakfasts. I'll wrap them individually and put 'em in the freezer.

I bought the canned biscuits/rolls for the caregiver to cook for the parents. They both love bread. But, it's not what DH and I usually eat. Can't waste 'em so I'll use 'em up a little at a time. Next time I go see the folks I'll warm some up and take each of 'em a snack. Still have some family pics to take up to decorate their rooms with. Slowly but surely getting it all done.

I've decided that we need to eat up some of the things in the freezer/pantry/fridge before I worry about buying more groceries again. There is so much here! We need to get some of it eaten up before we get new stuff, lol.

They ARE settling in. DH saw them Saturday (when I was so upset about mom falling) and they were already doing better then. We went again on Monday and they seemed very comfortable. Some of the other residents have also taken them under their wing and I'm so grateful for that. This is such a better atmosphere for them than just existing at my house. They have other folks to interact with there and constant care. Daily baths are a definite plus too!

That's great! I'm happy for them, and for you! How goes selling their house?

S.L.O.W..... Our original closing date was set at the end of January...not sure where we are on that. Now that I have more time on my hands I'll be riding that realtor to get things moving. I want to get it sold so I don't have to dip into their 401K to pay for AL. They've got a pretty healthy bank account that will get them through 3 or 4 more months of care, but at 8K a month we need that house money! Also need to get back in touch with FEMA and see where we are on their appeal....I thought we woulda heard something by now. :(

Oh...forgot to mention I'm back on the hunt for a kiko buck/ling. I could have picked one up this week and bottle raised him...fair price too. But, dang, as much as I don't enjoy bottle raising - I especially don't want to bottle raise one in the house, lol. I asked them to contact me when they had more babies. Hope they don't forget me...but, I'll bug 'em on a routine basis if need be.
