Thanks @Mini Horses. We try to "plan" fun things...might be the only way to get any fun these days - but we are always at he mercy of the farm! Know the feeling, huh?

Was a little annoyed when I got to the facility to see dad this morning. It was about 8:45 - breakfast is at 8:30 and dad was still in bed. Granted - he was sleeping, but they should have had him up and out of bed and at the table. I know I expect a lot - and sometimes there are other residents that need more attention but it's MY dad and I expect he get the attention he deserves. He was very wet and DH changed him...love my DH! But, they were very apologetic and got him up and to breakfast. He's having a lot of pain in his legs and knees and I'm going to talk to his hospice nurse about his pain control - or lack of.

Got the oil changed in DH's car, had lunch and went to the phone store to see about getting me a new iPhone. I have a 4S and it's so far behind the technology curve that I can't download any new apps. It's also gotten very touchy about taking pics. I just need a new one. New phones are CRAZY expensive! Just crazy...

I need to get out in the garden and pick some more Red Rippers. Those things are producing like gangbusters. I don't think I'll have enough to can any cuz we eat the heck out of 'em. Maybe next year I'll think about planting more...heck, I could probably plant some more now and they'd have time to produce. We've got lots of hot weather left.

I am sorry about your doe. They do wrap around our heart and leave such a hole in our heart when they are gone. Big hugs.

What are you going to do with your figs? When I can get my hands on figs, I make strawberry fig preserves. It's a recipe using strawberry jello. Good stuff.

Yes, that is YOUR Dad and you want the best for him. You are a good daughter.

Right now I have two trays of figs in the dehydrator. My gramma used to make great fig preserves - but too much sugar for DH. I wonder if sugar free Jello would work? Might be worth it to give it a try. Off to Goggle....

Last time I made them was in 2012. My Mom's neighbor had a tree with HUGE figs and he gave them all to me. All he wanted was a jar of strawberry fig preserves. My grandmother made them. It seems the things I love to make is because my grandmother made it too. I wish I had told her how much she inspired me.

FEM, you're right to fuss about your dad. He may just be another resident for them, but he is your dad! How is he doing now? Apart from the pain. I hope they can get that under control soon.

I have never seen a fig. (I just googled one to know what it looked like) I have ate a few fig newtons in my day though

Maybe you could make some using Stevia or Splenda? I'd play around with it and see what I could do. You could even use corn starch to thicken it if you froze it...

Oh man, that sucks! They are so good - easy to grow - and good for ya too!

FEM, what zone are you in? I had a fig tree in Kentucky. It would die back every fall and grow back in the spring. It never produced much 3-5 figs. My neighbor here in VA has some fig trees on our property line and they're doing the same thing. What do I do to make them grow better/ produce more? I would love to have more than 5/ year!!!

I wish I knew! Here - figs are worry/trouble free. I literally do nothing for these trees - except water if we are in a drought. Earlier this spring I did some light pruning and stuck the cuttings in the dirt.. 3 or 4 out of maybe 10 started growing with no special care at all except for keeping the soil moist.

Ah, that makes sense. We're zone 7 so much further north. Maybe I should just plant a whole row of them similar to my berries. Then maybe I'd get enough figs!
