What Mini said. I've been disbudding for decades. Some of them never miss a beat and jump in your lap right afterwards - but I've had the odd one or two over the years that have never forgiven me. Those babies probably just had crappy personalities to start with. Generally they get over it just fine and return to their sweet selves!

Thanks for the suggestion of Valley Vet - but they're out too. I tired 7 or 8 place and none of them have any stock. I don't know what's up with that, but it's not good! Really hope the vet has some he'll sell me. For some reason I think it might require a visit....ugh. But - since he doesn't disbud he might sell it to me. We've had a pretty good relationship over the past 20 years or so. :fl

Dang.... Here I thought I was being helpful.... Its probably something to do with the source or manufacturer. If bad weather has happened around the factory....

@perchie.girl You made the effort and I appreciate it!

I'm tired...

I've been working for a couple weeks on a corner of my yard that is covered, and I mean covered with blackberry vines. I'm almost there. I've done at least 3/4 of it. Goats are loving my efforts cuz they get to eat the leaves offa the sticker vines.

Also did some follow-up wormings on some of the gals. For some of them it was their third round. They're all looking pretty good right now so I'm guessing it's working. Should probably take in a fecal. I'll do that if/when I go pick up some Tetanus Antitoxin. :fl

Finished up raking out the little barn and dusted it with Co-Ral. It's that lice time of year.... ugh.

While I was doing all of that I noticed that PIA has a little discharge. It's the mucus plug kind of discharge - not the ropy gooey I'm about to kid kind of discharge. I really hope she can wait till another weekend.... silly goat!

Back to work tomorrow... ugh.

Called the vet first thing this morning looking for Tetanus Anti-toxin. They can't get it either - says there is a nationwide shortage and they haven't had any in 4 months...and don't know when to expect it. How crazy is that? The receptionist says they're still doing de-hornings and using extra penicillin. I've never used antibiotics for disbudding but maybe I will now? I hate to turn these babies into pin cushions. Geeze Louise!!

I'm going to go ahead and disbud them, but I will bandage their head and keep them locked in a deeply bedded pen. They (and their mama) are NOT going to like it but what other choice is there except to have horns...and I won't have horns. Calculated risk I guess - but I still hate it!

This all makes me wonder if there is a shortage of human grade...or is it all the same cuz lots of animal meds are really the same thing as is given to humans! That is scary stuff!

I wonder if you could get a few doses from your doc? Before they had this technology, they were dehorning, yes?
Called the vet this morning and they don't have any. I don't think a medical doctor would be able to do that. :hu Just out of curiosity - I could get my DH to ask their hospital pharmacist if they have a shortage also. But, since they are a psych hospital it might not be something he is aware of. They only dispense psyc meds there...for anything medical they get sent to a medical hospital/clinic.
