We got a thunderstorm last night that dropped lots of lightening and an inch of rain. It woke me up at 3 AM and I never went back to sleep.

Banding is done! And just for good measure we did the Nigerian Dwarf buckling too. I really liked that little Kinder buckling, but I've got too many bucks now, lol.

And what the heck? I'm smelling rutty bucks already and saw does wagging tails today. Oh, and just because it's my house and stoopid stuff happens at my house - two bucks were out today. (see why I was inspired to band today, lol) They pushed the staples out of a post and stepped through the loose spot. I patched it today and will be reinforcing EVERY SINGLE stock panel and post tomorrow. UGH...

Seriously one of my does was mounting her sister and my 10 week old buck has a faint smell to him already. What's up with that?? They're going to have to suffer, I'm not breeding them until at LEAST November!

Glad you got those boys done. Will they be dinner?

Probably, lol. I love goat meat, but usually somebody offers me money before I get the chance to butcher one.

 

[Mini Horses]

Well, look at it this way --- I had/have same breeding curiosity with my animals and that included the mini horses. So the goats mature sooner, gestate shorter, generally have multi kids, thus show results within 2 years . Minis took 2.5-3 yrs to mature, just short of a year to gestate, then another several months to show results with growth of only 1 foal.

PLUS you really need more than one offspring to clearly show what the cross may give.

I clearly understand!!! Breeders need to know things.

I have now gotten myself down to ONE buck....5 adult does, 2 yearlings & 4 from Jan of this year. That means, I need to BUY another buck -- or find one to exchange for breeding season (which I'm working on). I'm proud of myself for making cuts of 2 bucks I really liked but, didn't need. Mainly, they were both sons of one I kept. NICE mature bucks, nice $$.

Got a couple things done today - but not as much as I would have liked. I had some chicken soup that I made while DH was out of town. Only made it while he was gone because I had some chicken in the fridge that I never put in the freezer. It needed to be cooked - so I cooked it. I didn't eat dinner most evenings when DH was out of town so it had been sitting in the fridge for awhile. I felt really horrible that we didn't eat it - so today I cooked up a big pan of rice, dumped it in the soup and mixed some of it up with the dog food. THEY appreciated it, even if DH and I didn't!

Inspected the fence around the buck pen and did a little shoring up there. I don't trust the staples anymore so I also literally wire the stock panels to the fence posts. Couple of the wires I had put up last year were looking a bit rusty and fragile - so I reinforced them with new wire.

Boiled up some eggs for the pigs.

Picked some figs and put 'em in the dehydrator. Would've picked more but "the neighbor" was outside and I didn't want to go on the other side of the fig tree that's closest to their yard, lol. Didn't want to have to speak to him, or look at him, or even think about him. Gives me the shivers - yuck!

I guess I was still tired from Friday because I slept 'til nearly 9 this morning! Unheard of for me! But, I did feel a bit more energized today.

Back to it tomorrow. We're half way through our six weeks of H.E. double L. We have one more really long day/field trip in a couple weeks. We'll be going to a college about 4 hours away and back in one day again. The worst/most fun will be an overnight field trip to San Antonio....

But, the field trip this week will be easy. Taking the kiddos to the Microsoft store at the mall where they'll hear about employment opportunities in the tech world. Lunch in the food court - and back to campus. Easy Peasy!

Gosh it seems that the busier I am the behinder I get, lol!

Hard to get much done during the week but tonight while I was cooking dinner I slathered some cure on the bacon slab that I thawed out. I now have bacon curing! Woo hoo nothing better than bacon!

I tried a different recipe that has kosher salt, brown sugar, pink salt, red pepper flakes, paprika, cumin and black pepper. Course I changed it up a little bit - it called for honey and I just added more brown sugar. I have honey but ...eh. It didn't call for pepper - but I added it anyway - we like pepper bacon. If this recipe doesn't turn out well - I have another belly in the freezer!

Made a vegetarian version of stuffed zucchini for dinner. Wasn't necessarily going for vegetarian - just didn't thaw out any meat. I added black beans to give it a little more body... it's edible but not my best effort.

I need to go check on the figs that I put in the dehydrator...

I've got so much to do but the grands visiting are putting me behind. I did get the garden watered but except for what absolutely needs to be done I have to watch the little man especially. He's almost two years old and does a great impression of a little tornado, lol.

I can almost smell the bacon. Making me hungry thinking about it.

Ahhhhh - the grands top everything in my book. When they were littler - life just stopped when they visited and it was good! Now, they just get out there and help me with everything - that's good too!

Pulled the figs out of the dehydrator this morning. Yummy! Just the perfect fig raisin if ya ask me!
