2018 WILL be better! I have to say, snow is a pain sometimes but I prefer it to mud. Mud is just nasty. How cold are you supposed to get?

I can only hope, lol!

Brother did come for a visit - it was nice. He was very sympathetic to what's going on here - he had no idea. His challenge to get his house back in order is pretty severe too - but nothing like this. Today didn't start well, but hey, what else is new, lol. When brother was here mom asked to go outside and talk to him. DH was helping her put her jacket on when she looked at him and told him to stay inside that she didn't want us to go outside with her. She proceeded to tell brother how she doesn't feel safe here and wanted him to take her home. I knew that would happen.

Later when I just casually asked her what they had talked about (I already knew - Brother told me) she said they mostly just listened to the men. What men? You know - those men in the garage..... no men in the garage. Later the same men were knocking on the door - look - don't you see them. No mom, I don't. Geeze louise - so sad.

But, I got outside for awhile again today. Had to clean out the area around the cut-off valve so I can shut the water off to the critters - DONE!
Had to put some hay in the tubs to protect my veggies - DONE!
Also put hay in the small raised bed - DONE!
Added hay to the barn area so goats don't have to go out - DONE!
Re-bedded little chicken pen so they'd have fresh hay to snuggle in - DONE!

I feel better about having those things out of the way. I think we're headed for high 20's tonight and maybe mid 20's tomorrow night... gonna be cold for most of the week. I'm so glad I have a bootleg heater in my office cuz it's gonna be crazy cold in there Wednesday...brrrrr!

Sent DH to town to grab some wine! I may celebrate all the way up to about 7pm, lol!

Happy New Year ya'll!

Oh that is sad. Glad your brother kind of gets it now. And happy to hear you got some things done!

I keep forgetting it's New Year's Eve. I will certainly not be awake at midnight! Happy New year to you, and may it be a whole heck of a lot better than this one has been!!!

He does - and he sent me a text a few minutes ago saying how sorry he is that I'm dealing with this.... ahhhhhhmaaaaaazing! He really is a decent guy - just has his problems like the rest of us. Sometime in the probably not too distant future he will be the only original family member I have left.

I won't be up either. I'm threatening to go to bed now even though it would kinda be unfair to DH, but I'm sleeeeepy!

That's great. I'm glad he saw what you're dealing with and acknowledged it. Family can be rough but it would be good if you could find a new "understanding" after this all.

Give DH a little hang out time and go to bed. I'm hoping you won't be up in a few hours but chances are.... Well, you need to sleep when you can!

I do have a great DH! I went to bed about 7:30 and slept until 2:30...it was awesome...more sleep at one time than I've had in months (even though I kept hearing fireworks and the door chime downstairs every time mom would get up). But I just rolled over and ignored it all. I feel so much better. Now if only this cough would go away. It's been hanging on for at least a month now...just allergies and sinus crap but it's annoying as heck.

The downside of getting a bunch of sleep is that now I'm awake and it's still technically the middle of the night. I got up to get some cough syrup (and so I wouldn't keep DH awake with my cough) and while I was up I decided to have my celebratory glass of wine. I just haven't decided if I'm drinking really early today or really late from the day before. Doesn't even taste that great with the aftertaste of cough syrup still lingering. Ugh.

I made some chili yesterday and didn't even eat any :(. But, I'm sure it'll be better today. I'm gonna pop a meatloaf in the oven later and try to get some extra cooking done since I go back to work in a couple days. DH is going to be taking care of the oldsters for awhile but I just don't see him doing that all day and then making dinner. Would that be asking a little too much, lol?

Feeling a little drowsier now, so think I'll head back upstairs for, hopefully, another couple of hours.

I was up in the middle of the night too. ugh! Hope you managed to go back to sleep (I did). Cooking ahead sounds like a good plan, I'm sure your husband will appreciate not having to cook dinner!
