Wow - scary time for folks in the general vicinity. There has been a tornado in the area - passing a little more than a mile from my house. Houston news station is on air with uninterrupted coverage of it right now. It started west and a little north of us (between my son's house and my place) and has stayed on the ground for miles. There is debris on the road just a mile or so from me. Feel so bad for the folks affected by this. Thankful my DIL called to tell us to hunker down because our satellite TV loses signal with bad weather. I eventually got a tornado warning on my phone but it was a little late for my comfort.

No TV here either. Hard pouring rain. It blocks the satellite signal. My sister called checking on me. My farm looks like a series of ponds. I sure need some sunshine!

We've got never ending sirens all around us. Helicopters hovering in the area. I live 1/2 mile from Hwy. 35 and the roads are closed from 35 to Alvin, where I shop. Roads are also closed directly across the Hwy. I can't go right or straight across the highway. Way too close for comfort.

Got another 1.5 inches of rain out of it. That puts us at 8.5 inches in less than a week.

glad everyone is ok so far that you know of - i've not had a chance to catch the news lately so i'm not sure if there are other's further from your circle who've been injured or lost.

There is a storm chaser on YT who I was watching briefly this morning, live. He predicted it would be a rough time for east texas. Glad you're ok.

My sister was calling me to see if I was ok. She gave me descriptions of what the news was showing. Rain was like a snow storm, all white. It blocked the satellite signal.

Thanks! East Texas had a hard time also. I'm actually south of Houston. I think I heard that there were at least 8 separate tornado touchdowns yesterday. They're calling "our" tornado something like a "long track" tornado and that they're very rare in this part of the country. There will be more investigation of it but from what we saw yesterday it must've been on the ground for 50+ miles. At one point it crossed a bay as a waterspout and emerged as a tornado again and kept going. Crazy!

I'm glad too, lol. It appears that the tornado was "birthed" less than 2 miles from here. The path that I take to my son's house took a hard hit. So very strange to have something like this happen a stone's throw away. Feel so bad for these folks. The loader at the feed mill I go to lives in the area that had total loss of some homes. I'll try to find out if he was hit. These folks are definitely hard-working folks who will need a lot of help to recover. Going to try to find out what's most needed and see if we can help.

Happy New Year everyone!

Four of my five grandkids are coming today and will stay until Sunday! WooHoo! Very excited about that. Of course that means almost non-stop cooking! Today will be the obligatory, traditional New Year Day meal. I'll cook a ham to go along with the black-eye peas, cabbage and cornbread. Hopefully there will be enough ham left for sandwiches for lunch a few days.

DH has Occupational Therapy this morning. I think I'll get some shopping done early - probably leave DH and the Therapist to do their thing while I head to town. Four teens in the house will need sustenance, lol. They seem to think they should eat multiple times a day! Also need some game bird feed for the quail and I'll top off on goat grain while I'm there.

Got some CDT shots given yesterday. I'll be giving more as the month goes on. I'm trying to get them in that 4 - 6 week window before kidding. It really supercharges the colostrum with antibodies for those babies. I'm getting anxious for babies! Can't wait to see what the new buck (and does) produce.
