Brook, the problem is that they can visualize your fence. A single strand at just about knee high is something they either blunder into or have to sniff to investigate. I've heard time and again about people building these Ft. Knox fences, electric or otherwise, and the deer just jump them. My folks have been using the knee-hi single strand for about 30 years now without a single incident....and they have 6-13 deer in their yard each evening. The deer actually come and eat out of their compost bin next to the garden all the time...but never IN the garden!
And the folks plant a massive big garden with all the tempting juicy things that deer love!
