gluten free pot luck dishes?

Maybe if you started bringing healthier versions, other would follow your lead and if your recipe is also diabetic friendly, you could let them know so they would have a better choice. It's really hard to eat potluck because it's always comfort food, all cheesy, chocolate-y, heavy on the carbs, light on the green stuff. - But really good! :drool

Unfortunately, I can't help, but I'm posting to say "yeah, you!" We have a lady in our church (not sure if it's celiacs, but she can't have gluten), who can only eat what she brings to the church dinners, b/c she knows what is/isn't in it.

So keep up the great work! 2nd the recommendation on putting a note beside it that says it's gluten-free/good for diabetics/etc, along with what it is - I ALWAYS like to know what I'm eating, and sometimes it can be confusing trying to decide what something is.

You could also make some recipe cards and put it by the dish. That way if people like it they can make it themselves or they can look out for problem ingredients.

Ooooo, I like the recipe card idea.

Yeah, potlucks are tricky. There are several people that usually bring fresh fruit mixtures, I could bring a big bowl of salad and some bottles of gluten free dressing.

I hadn't thought of chili either but that's a good idea.

I have to even stay away from some dishes with cheese cause preshredded cheese mixes usually have flour in it to keep it from clumping :rolleyes:

Lots of people make things with good intentions but don't read the labels and end up including things with wheat/gluten. Like, no one thinks about cans of soup but most are thickened with flour. So anything that someone put a can of soup into I usually can't eat.

I'm making gluten free lasagna tonight and I may do that if it turns out okay.

My rule is, unless the person making it has a gluten allergy, or, its a "plain" food, such as veges or meat without sauce, I will not eat it.
I bring my own cooler or mini crockpot of food everywhere I go.
