I just read the actual article - this line is what scares me:

"The biotech industry has already failed to prevent experimental GM rice contaminating the food chain.
So, ummm, where has the GM rice already contaminated the food chain?

I'd like to know from where did they "harvest" that many human genes to research and produce this to begin with. Just thinking out loud here...but IF this is just now coming onto the market...how long have they been researching and dabbling with the genes? Where did the genes come from that they used to do all this research and produce this product? Corpses turned over to medical science who died from who knows what? Aborted babies whose mothers had who knows what? Druggy plasma donations who again had who knows what? WHERE?!?! I mean joke about cannibalism if you want but at least folks should be able to find out WHO they're eating part of, right?

'Scuse me....going to hurl now...... :sick :sick :sick :sick :sick :sick

I have a sneaking suspicion that what I highlighted may well be the answer :(

This is frightening. And disgusting.

I am not interested in having food manufactured of human genes. From a "scientific" standpoint you can argue that genes are tiny building blocks composed of just the 4 bits in varying configurations, and humans are not so different from fish or rice in the first place. But I have an ethical, moral, and spiritual issue with it. And I have the right not to have my beliefs infringed upon by unknowingly having this stuff contaminate my food supply.

Not to mention ... they are introducing these genes (which work to fight bacteria) via ... bacteria? So you are grafting the "building blocks" which produce proteins to fight bacteria ... into bacteria? Have these folks never heard of mutation? Does anyone else think this goes beyond "ill advised"???

Kansas. Hmm. Aren't they moving "Plum Island" (where Lyme disease was created) to Kansas?
