I had to expand my CL search for a stud and found this. Should I pursue it? It is a bit of a distance but I'm not finding anything local in my initial search...

They're charging $200 for a stud fee?! Good grief, that's expensive. I wouldn't pay that much for a stud fee. If you wanted to wait, mark today on the calendar so you'll know when to expect her next heat cycle.

Or maybe they're selling him to? May be worth sending an email to check! :)

$50 would be more reasonable, but if they sell him and she comes back into heat, you are out your $50. Sounds like $200 is the selling price and they worded their ad poorly...just a guess, though. If you go with him, get a contract to get your money back if they sell him before she settles.

Sounds like Daisy is in heat, especially since she is inviting that behavior from Thomas. Usually they resent it if it is dominance behavior.

Thanks Free. I thought the ad was oddly worded too. My first reading, I wasn't sure what they were saying. I would assume that if you advertise goat for stud you're selling his services rather than his self, but I've now seen several ads describing goats as stud goats when they really mean buck. You could very well be right. I think the distance will keep me from persuing that buck. I've got some options closer to home to look into. I just need to get brave enough to do it!

Things are looking up! I mentioned to a friend at church that we're looking for a buck to breed Daisy to and her face lit up! Turns out good friends of hers have a white buck. She doesn't know the breed but it sure sounds like a Saanen to me. She is going to be seeing them on Friday and will get a buck rag for me. Since Daisy's own father was a Saanen, babies would be 3/4 Saanen. Could be a great thing! And I'm willing to bet they aren't going to want any stud fee. I've met the wife myself several times and like her very much. If I needed to leave Daisy with them for a period of time I could do that and trust them to take good care of her. They are not far away either, actually in the town where DH works. :fl

Henrietta23, sounds like you are going through the process I just went through.
One of the things I noticed about my girls when they are in heat, is that they really "wag" their tails, as if to make sure their odor gets out there. ;)
The girls would also mount each other.
You should also remember that (according to my research) goats breed in the winter months, so you may not have a lot of time to get her bred. I would definitel mark the calendar, so you'll have an idea of when to expect her to go into heat again.
My Flower was very subtle with her signs. Blossom was really obvious.

I hope the deal with the church friend works out. That sounds just about as perfect as it gets. :fl

Oh, good.......Um.... :hide does this mean I no longer have to feel guilty every time I see the ziploc on my counter with Dorian stink on it, that I can't seem to get to the post office when it is open? :hide

Don't feel guilty! Even if you'd already mailed it and she showed signs of raging heat I don't have a buck lined up! I may have missed this year completely. Neither girl is showing me anything that seems definite. SO frustrating but I'm doing the best I can. If you DO happen to make it to the PO with Dorian's BO I'll still use it though....

That buck sounds like a great option, and it's great that you could trust them to take care of your doe if you needed to leave her there!
