but, I don't have any grain, I plan to check some places later in the week,

1st where do you like to buy your grain?

2nd what should I do in the mean time?

I have on hand; rice, brown rice, black beans, split green peas, and popcorn that I suppose I could grind to take care of that itch...?

anyone use these for anything special? any easy way to substitute?
anything taste especially good?

I live in NC and get my wheat from two different sources.

The easiest for me is from an Amish store in Elkin NC called Yadkin Valley General Store. Last summer I could buy a 50 lb. bag of Wheat Montana Prairie Gold for around $35. I'm sure it's gone up since then. Wheat Montana Prairie Gold makes bread that looks like white bread but tastes whole wheat. Great stuff and it is my preferred bread grain. http://www.yvgeneralstore.com/index.html#

My other source is an LDS (Mormon) Cannery (Home Storage Center) about 120 miles away. LDS Canneries are great and super cheap too, selling at $7.65 for a 25 lb. bag of red winter wheat. Non-LDS are welcome at some facilities call the one closest to you to find out. You can't beat their food prices and they have long term packing supplies and facilities to pack . You DO have to make an appointment since it is staffed with volunteers.
Here is a link to find one near you:

I'm neither an Amish nor a Mormon but both societies sell good eats.
