I've tried the line drying before but all my clothes were.... crunchy.

the towels were'nt soft and fluffy.

am I doing something wrong, like I need a fabric softener?

I usually run a humidifier in our bedroom at night, because it is soooo dry here in IL during the winter. The dryer is currently in the living room, and when we go to bed, I turn the ceiling fan on low to circulate the air. Seems to help.

As a child growing up in Colorado, I used to get bad nosebleeds in the night because it was so dry. So now, having humidity in the air is a good thing!

Line drying does leave clothing a little more 'crisp'. I love it for jeans and stuff, but towels are best fluffed in the dryer afterwards if you like them soft and fluffy.

Okiegirl....do you use the homemade soap found here on SS? Once I started using it, my clothes weren't near as stiff when hung on the line. You could also try a bit of vinigar in the wash to help soften the water. I put a bit in the pressure canner so I don't get hard water rings/deposits. I have extremely hard water, and that seems to help alot. :)

:hide no, I haven't used the homemade soap yet. This is what a dork I am. I asked for the ingredients for Christmas. That, a pressure canner, some powdered milk and chees making stuff.
I'm such a dork. Oh well.

so hopefully I'll make some homemade soap soon and can re-try the line drying.

DH has quit using the dryer sheets on rainy days since we started using the homemade laundry soap. With the dryer sheets, the clothes feel toooo soft, like they are still wet or are about to fall apart.

Came home one day to DH hanging all my clean dainties on the ballfield side with bunch of teenage boys over there playing baseball :ep
I gave up trying to hide them & just hang them in my defunct shower.

I'm gonna try to use the wool dryer balls instead of the dryer sheets. I've got the first felting done, but since there are only three of us, I don't have lots of laundry. I'll have to wait until this week-end to have more to do.

.... and NO.... I don't want some of ya'll's. I knew ya'll would volunteer.

I read this out loud to the DH and we both got quite a laugh! He said "at least he was trying!" which I have to completely agree....Mine won't hang clothes OR do dishes!!! :idunno

Okiegirl, you are NOT a dork!!! I think we are at a point to where we ask for what we NEED, and thats cool! :thumbsup

I tried so hard to be sweet! Aw, thank you sweety... ummm, do you mind if I just take these inside?
DH really is the bestest. He's stubborn, but that can be a good thing. He is a SAHD who proudly refuses to wear an apron

Okie, I agree with pioneergirl, you are NOT a dork for asking for those supplies for Christmas. You're trying new stuff and learning is COOL!

When I was growing up we had a wood stove in the basement (man, do I miss that stove) and my dad ran clotheslines through the rafters in the basement so we never needed the dryer in the winter! It was great!
