He can live in Alaska like that without interferance :)

Its just because he is not paying taxes on "proper" amenities. Thats why they want him gone.

Unfortunately, most places you can't just put a regular trailer on your property and live in it. If you could, I know several people that would do just that.

If he isn't properly disposing of sewage (human waste) in an approved manner that will get all kinds of attention. He could have had a neighbor turn him in.

Is it against the law to have an out hose in the country?

Just wondering.

In Illinois it's one of those it depends. You can have an outhouse for a residence but it has to meet certain specifications like a watertight vault for all the stuff. If the vault were to be compromised (broken or cracked) the stuff can get in the ground water. Ground water can travel a long ways and still be contaminated. Then the contaminated ground water ends up in someone elses well. That family gets sick because some guy in a trailer didn't want to follow the rules.

I used to work for health department and had to issue permits, help design, and inspect private sewage systems. I also had to issue permits and inspect private wells.

It's a lot bigger than some guy living on 37 acres or so and wanting to be left alone. His actions or lack of actions can affect others.

yea I agree that some steps must always be taken to protect others but at some point someone always gets the short end of the stick.

I feel for the guy but he doesn't seem destitute to me at all.
owning 37 acres he has some means to correct the situation....but then again, living like that as he is, he could have some mental problems etc. that just aren't coming to light in this little article.

you just never know the full story at all???

I would LOVE to live that way, granted I would want solar for electricity, and a nice permanent structure with a wood stove. Does that mean I have mental problems??

Doesn't matter if he is mentally ill or what-not. Like Dac said there probably needs to be some form of inspection for waste materials, but they are going WAY too far with this. Poor guy.

Screw that.
