Tulsi/Holy Basil- good tasting tea that relaxes- but doesn't knock me out. I used to drink it at lunch when the job was too :he Also extremely high in antioxidants and good for the immune system.
Basil- High in antioxidants, good for cooking, and leaves can be rubbed on skin as a bug repellent. May have some hormonal activity, so don't do large amounts if pregnant.
Rosemary- High in antioxidants, good for memory, cooking, and very pretty growing.
Thyme- Sore throat relief (it's in most cough drops) and good for cooking.
Lemon Balm- good tasting tea, relaxing, antiviral, nice potted plant or grown in garden.
I want to grow:
Comfrey- for making salves and for other emergencies. Uncle Sam only approves of external uses for it, but it used to be used medicinally for lots of things. Not to be used by anybody with liver trouble, or in large amounts or long term use.
Mullien- tea clears the lungs. It can be smoked for that, but the effects are harsher that way.
Chamomile- calming, good at bedtime and Yummy. Fights some types of germs. Great hair rinse for blondes.
Sage- Sore throats, helps fight some germs, and for cooking. Hair rinse - used to make it look darker. Tea used to help decrease milk when Mom's are weaning their babies. Some hormonal activity- used in some menopause formulas. Do your research since I don't know what the connection is for that.
Elderberry- tastes good, and helps fight flu. Check out the German Research on Sambucol if you want some serious info. They passed it for a Flu Rx.
Calendula- salves and for home-made beauty products. Pretty in the garden too.
