Well, I can't wait to get my own copies!!

This year, one of my big goals is to cross fence even more so I can rotate everyone every 21 days.

Culling is going to be the hard part for me. :/

I hear ya on that! But we aren't making our living on it, are we? Remember, culling is selling, too, not only killing. There are plenty of people out there who will love an animal as a pet that doesn't fit in with your ss goals.

Good point!! I'm always learning on this site!! I'm glad I dont have to kill to cull. (Not that I'm against killing...just not my pet animals, which are all of them. I will have to get "eating" animals when I'm ready to kill for food.)

Salatin culls his herds rigorously by selling, or even butchering a cow that cannot be saved during a difficult calving. Instead of a C-section to save the cow, he sends her to be ground for hamburger. He reasons he would be selling her anyway because of the problems with the birthing and this saves the vet bill.

He also says he has a favorite cow or two that he keeps saying he is going to cull every year but he can't seem to do it. They were his favorites for one reason or another, so he keeps them as herd leaders and such.

See? Even the big boys get mushy sometimes....
