Some interesting ideas for your painted stairs ;) I especially like the last one, you could do it in any colour and it is very simple yet crisp. A beige on an offwhite might be more 'chic' if you are not a blue person...

We are down to one room with carpet. The wood floors really need to be redone, but distressed wood is WAY more attractive than crappy carpet. Besides, carpet is just a giant germ trap. I will never have carpet again. Throw rugs? Sure. Carpet? HECK NO!
My last two houses did not have carpet, and I LOVED it. (actually, that was a prerequisite when looking for our last home)

This house had carpet in the 70% of the basement. All of tha carpet has been ripped up and we are in the process of tiling the floors down there. Upstairs, living room and all three bedroom still have carpet, but they will eventually go too.

I hate carpet with a passion, and i also hate vacuuming. I would much rather grab a broom and dustmop and do the floors everyday.

WE have carpet on our stairs, and eventually it will go too, but stairs are costly to recover/labour intensive. when we do get around to it, it will tiled also, but Morel, I love the riser photos you posted. maybe we will just do the surface and paint the risers.

Morel!! Great ideas!! They look wonderful!!! I just LOVE those stairs!!

Thanks for the sand tip too, I have an old, big dog with furry feet that needs a bit of traction to get around these days. I was worried about having slick stairs.

Those painted stairs are gorgeous!!! I like the first one but instead of a nautical theme how about farm pictures???

I bet for us not artistic folk you could even decoupage pictures on the risers. Like a really cool wall paper bored or something. Maybe even pictures printed off the Internet.

Ideas, ideas, ideas!!!!

You could get almost that same effect with a toile wallpaper...or you can find a walpaper border with canning jars on it and use it...or that wallpaper border that looks like a book case...the possibilities are endless with borders...I used to use them alot on risers...cahnged the decor once a year....

Ok I got a good one. I use vinyl clings on my kids bedroom walls. They apply so easy then you just peel them off when you need something new. You could paint the risers a nice satin finish then just use vinyl clings. Peel them off and change according to the seasons, holidays etc...

Idea's :barnie Now just need a staircase!!! :D
