But even if you just warm up the bed before you get in it?
Yes it has something to do with the electromagnetics...the whole time it is plugged it it is sending them out. They known for an increased risk of breast cancers as well. There is alot of info out there on the net about it. It is also linked to childhood lukemia...here's an excerpt from Dr. Mercola

"Electric blankets create a magnetic field that penetrates about 6-7 inches into the body. Thus it is not surprising that an epidemiological study has linked electric blankets with miscarriages and childhood leukemia.

This pioneering work was performed by Dr. Nancy Wertheimer and Ed Leeper, who originally discovered that magnetic fields were linked to childhood leukemia. Similar health effects have been noted with users of many electric blankets and waterbed heaters will emit EMFs even when turned off.

The devices must be unplugged to delete the EMF exposure Additionally, there is the issue regarding the vibrations that are generated by sleeping on standing water. There is less hard data in this area but some experts are concerned about the consequences"

Ok, what do y'all think about this:

I saw this at the wood stove store. Basically if you have to buy wood at $300 a cord (which we may have to do) it is about TWICE as expensive as gas!!! And that doesn't even take into account stacking, hauling, moving firewood!!

I sure don't spend $300/cord of wood! So, that's way off. And, I don't know the prices of anything else since I don't use it. Our house is all electric, which is why we have the wood stove. And, we've had it now for over 20 years. In all that time, we've only bought 3? cords of wood, and none of them were that expensive!

Ok, just saw that you're in CA, so that might make sense. Anyway you can get wood cheaper?

We pay NOTHING for our wood, but we are in WA.

There are "clean air days" here, usually when it hasn't rained in awhile for the air to be washed clean, when they allow woodburning stoves to be used as a heat source but limit other burning, such as decorative fireplaces or brush and waste burning.

Depending on if you are allowed to build one, have you ever heard of rocket mass heaters--they are supposed to use 1/4 of the wood and use almost 100% of the heat, as it sinks into the mass surrounding the fire and exhaust. If I can talk hubby into it I might try to build one.

I started wondering if there is a way to circulate hot water from our hot water heater and use that as a heating system.
I know this isn't what you were thinking but it made me flashback to high school where our 1920's building was heated with steam through the radiators. We were never warm!

Wait a minute. The bottom line is for a central furnace, like most of the houses we have out here. What represents the top line, just "gas"? I would think that bottom line is more representative of our costs to heat our homes. Note it was 09 prices for PG&E too....

Yes, even up in the foothills, cords of oak, torn out apricot, olive or walnut orchards wood, or tamarack, go for $250 - $300.
