Hi. Alex Yaya.
Just moved to a very cold Ireland from Africa.
I am trying to get a handle on growing food in this climate and be more self sufficient in a small back yard scenario, while renting.
Always grown my own veg and kept animals for meat, chickens for eggs etc. For now i just have some sad looking herbs in pots on my window ledge....but looking to expand. This will probably be in spring as things warm up. Hating the extreme cold ;)

It takes a while to get used to a change in climate. I think you will love it there though- so lush and green!

Welcome from northeast Texas! What led you to leave Africa for Ireland? And what part of Africa are you from? I hope you learn how to garden in Ireland, there is probably some heat loving, long season crops you won't be able to grow, but maybe there are cool weather crops that didn't do well in Africa that you can grow now. A new country! You are on an adventure!

Reminds me of a story I heard once, but the opposite was true.....instead of going to the cold, she went to the heat....the desert and wanted to leave, but her mother wrote her and said,"Bloom where you planted," and she began to learn all about the area, in ways I cannot possibly recall.
If you want something that needs warmth, I guess they will have to be on window sills, but learn about what grows and the seasons.
Welcome to SS and good luck. I'm sure there are some very good neighbors there, who will be more than happy to talk to you about gardening.
