Hen Turning into Rooster-How to Reverse

I do not know yet how to reverse. Her conversion does not bother me, and I don't need the eggs she's not laying, but the rooster she is with now thinks she's a threat, but he hasn't all out started fighting with her. She hasn't mounted any other hens (that I'm aware of).

I've researched and haven't found any way that it can be reversed. I have an idea though. I have some estrogen cream, (that I don't use), but I may have found a use for it!

I think the best place to rub on her is around her vent every night. I'll post to let everyone know if it works.

I don't see why my idea will not work, or at least lessen some of the symptoms, so that her rooster no longer thinks she's becoming a threat.

She needs to stop crowing all of the time. She's tidbitting, and talking like a rooster. She's otherwise very mellow, big fluffy Orpingtonish type.

Interesting that your hen is crowing now and the rooster is challenging her. I searched and found a blog that states almost 1 in 10,000 hens will spontaneously sex change - mostly due to damage to the primary ovary. If that is the case, I wonder if human estrogen will work for a chicken?
It will be interesting to find out.

I saw that ratio also 1 in 10,000...and I've three previous hens that started crowing, but not to the extent as this one. I didn't try to "cure" them. One died early, since she was also cannibalistic, and mounting the other hens.

How old is she? And you have a rooster already? The one that happened in my parent's flock over a decade ago changed because we didn't have a rooster. I don't recall if she changed back or what happened to her.

She is four years old.

Is she related to the others you had who also changed? I wonder if it's a genetic anomaly.

Since hens only have one functional ovary, any damage can cause this. Hatchery birds are more prone to reproductive issues that can lead to it.

I'm unsure if it can be helped. Also unsure about the estrogen.
