I think competitions should be competitive and cooperations be cooperative.

So if it is a non competitive horse show, the point is to show what you can do and check off skills and perhaps have a cooperative show where the kids work together on something.

It's why I think soccer should have a winner and a loser, but kids should also have to build things as a group. Rope courses are great for that. All kids succeed or none do.

Maybe it was the way they tried to hide what they were doing? And what would they have done with more riders? Oh well. MOving on!
Forgot to mention I got to see author Wally Lamb at calling hours. He is a neighbor of our friend. Peter Tork of the Monkees knew him too but we didn't see him.
DS is coughing an miserable tonight, unable to sleep. We stayed up watching National Velvet (he loved it!) until he did finally crashed. Then I called in for tomorrow so I can keep him home to rest and hopefully shake it off.

I hope the little man is doing better today. little g has been sniffling off and on the past few days. Today he woke up with the crap on his cheeks and tissues all over the floor so I know during the night he woke up to wipe. Yay.

There was a pile of tissues next to DS's bed too. On the floor. He has gone through two boxes sinces Friday. Ick. He doesn't have a fever but is coughing constantly and wiping/blowing a lot. We are home. I can't say I'm sorry to be sitting on my sofa with him playing quiet Wii games. We'll do some math practice later and work on a report that is due Friday. I have a Cub Scout meeting to plan for tonight. He won't be going but I will. I'd only have one or two boys except that we're expecting thunderstorms later so all baseball games are likely to be canceled. It is going to be a lousy week for getting anything done outdoors. DH started the garden fence but stalled because I had to use one of the panels as an emergency repair on the goat fence the day Daisy got out. So he'll have to finish that repair before he can remove the panel and build the gate to my veggie garden. I have to admit the picket fence in the middle of the backyard looks quite quaint! I'm debating whether to let the panels weather naturally or paint them. We have a white picket fence in front to keep dogs and chickens in the yard. I guess it makes sense to paint the garden fence to match.
My pepper seedlings are doing great. The tomatoes all look awful! I've got some cabbage and cukes that are doing okay too. I don't get why the tomatoes did so poorly!
I think I will take my shower, pour another cup of coffee and put some bacon in the oven. Should I be feeling guilty that I'm home today? I'm not sick! :hide

Heck no I wouldn't feel guilty!!

I'm actually off a half day Thursday and all day on Friday. I can't wait! My company created this new rule where you had to plan out your vacation for the entire year. Of course, things come up and you don't always know school schedules, etc., but I'm actually starting to like this plan. It forces you to take time off, which everyone needs but doesn't always do. So I'm off the end of this week, work all next week, then I'm off the 30th, work 2 days and off again the 2nd - 6th.

Nice! I used to love my days off during the week when I didn't work in schools. That was before kiddo came along. Of course now we all have school breaks off together and there's nothing to complain about there! DH will not be working this summer for the first time since DS was a baby. We'll be broke but should have a great time around the house. We are planning a few days camping somewhere, maybe Gloucester or Rockport. Lots of day trips. I've got some letterboxes planned so we'll find some new places to hike to hide those. We'll find some too. Whoa, rambling!! Time for a shower. I've been sucked into Scooby Doo and the Loch Ness Monster.... it's gonna turn out to be a robot, I just know it!

So one of the fringe benefits of keeping DS home today was hearing the birdy commotion out back. I knew we had a wren nesting in our Williamsburg bird house on the back of the garage and I noticed mama bringing bugs into it yesterday and heard the cheeping of the little ones. Well, today they fledged and I got video and pictures of the three little ones hopping around on the ground. I still haven't gotten the hang of getting video out of the camera and shared but here is a picture of one of the babies before it left the nest to join its siblings.
