That is one thing I would love to do Denise, get a microscope and test deer droppings from wild deer around where I live to see what parasites and worms are prevalent, if any. And then determine which plants they are eating.
Check garage sales, thrift stores and craigslist. I found an old all metal microscope with a mirror for light at a Goodwill. Like the kind we had in high school back when dinosaurs roamed free. It works great and was about $10.

Excellent points, Bee. But since most of us have access only to modern goats, I advocate for running your own fecals if you choose the natural route. Or at lease being very, very observant.

I did try to get a buckling from one of those endangered, almost feral breeds of goats (can't remember the name) and the person I contacted in my area who had them obviously didn't know much about goats....a do-gooder who didn't bother to do research into basic goat needs. Then he suddenly, out of the blue, sent me a very long and strange email that made me wonder about his mental stability or drug use! :rolleyes: So here I am, back with modern goats!

It is disgusting what has been done with animal breeding in this country, in almost every industry and every species. I used to work with Arabian horses and my boss only used imported horses for breeding. His horses were amazing athletes with good heads and in ten years we dealt with 3 colics. Fecals always came back excellent. It was $4 back then to have it done!

Yes, excellent points as usual Bee.

We discussed tobacco on one of your other threads Free, but vaguely at best;

So many people claim that animals will only live if they are doped up with conventional chemicals de-wormers, and that just isn't so. Many of us definitely have proof with healthy naturally raised livestock!

For the record, I'm not one who pushes chemical dewormers. :p

I really wanted to do a fecal on my goat, then do DE and then do another fecal, but I just can't see spending the money on it right now. I also need to invest in my own microscope!
