I joined a while ago, but have only really now sat down and completed my account.
My hubby and I bought a smallholding (6 Hectares/15 acres) outside a small village Riversdale in the Western Cape, South Africa. It took me about 2,5 years of searching until I eventually found it. My husband is in the navy, and has no interest in farming, gardening, etc, but he really loves animals. He is going to be the househusband and golfer, and I am going to be the farmer! You see, he has told me that as I packed and followed after him and our two now grown up sprogs, it was now time to realise my dreams!
Our little farm bears the wonderful name of Tir Na N'Og, which is Gaelic for place of eternal youth. As I am Belgian by birth, and initially wanted to call it Mon Desir (my desire), Ma Reve (my dream) or La Tournaissiene ( the province in Belgium where I was born), when we discovered the farms name, it was perfect! My husband is a quarter Scots, Irish, English and the last bit is Afrikaans, and as the Irish and Scots parts of his grandparents both spoke Gaelic, it was perfect!!!
In my next post I will post some pictures of Tir Na N'Og and tell you exactly what we will be doing.
