Wow! Those sound neat.....learning to sew is on my list of SS things to learn this year. I have been reading your journal and its awesome! I am 51 and just starting this....I am single also and learning to can, dehydrate and make sure my DD and her family are covered for at least a year. I will be able to cover myself and at least another family also. I am learning so much from everyone on this site!

What a kind thing to say ! Thank you.

It's funny, being a single parent makes you take on the attributes of both parents, doesn't it? The providing for and protecting thing are big for me. My daughter's dad left six months before she was born, so that part was there from day one for me.

Glad to know someone else is getting started in their 50's with this amazing lifestyle.

You are welcome! Yes, my childrens father passed when they were 8 and 4 yrs old. They both call me on Fathers Day, too! LOL! Its a family joke...my son wanted to go to the Boy Scouts Dad and Lad camp out when he was 11, and he told the Scoutmaster I was also his "Dad". So I went and there were other single moms there too! It was cool!
I am going to start on my holiday gifts maybe next week and get them knocked out by October...I hope!

I am going to make the market totes I never got done last year. In fact I'm thrilled you started this thread since it nudged me to start collecting fabric and find the pattern! My soup mixes were a hit last year with DH's family so more of those for them. Jams and jellies too. I think I'll do some knitted dish cloths and felted bowls as well. Nephew is off to college and niece is a new vegan, so cookbooks and kitchen utensils for them along with their homemade stuff.

Thanks for the title JJ. I'll definitely have to look for it. And I love your collecting ideas too. Right up my DS's alley.

FYI~ the book is available on Amazon (just a quick check to see) and gets top ratings. I'll probably pick it up at our local food co-op which is vegetarian and has lots of vegan items.
