I was wondering if anyone here had any tried and tried sugar scrubs, like the kind you'd use in the shower or tub to exfoliate. I'd like to try making some to give out for x-mas presents this year.

Just mix brown sugar with olive oil to the consistency you want. Add a few drops of fragrance oil. (optional)

Works great. Gift and use within a couple of weeks.

I make them and sell them.....love them!!! I use a combo of epsom salts and sea salt or white cane sugar, olive oil and essential oils.

They are addictive! :)

How much do you make at a time? It stores for just a couple of weeks?

Mine store for much longer. Years maybe? I make small batches so as to get the proportions right....one batch makes approx. 4 16 oz. jars.

I like to add oil only to the point of getting the scrub mix to the consistency of an icee. Too much makes it too sloppy, too little makes it too dry.

While I was searching around I found this recipe which I think will be perfect for a holiday gift:

"This body scrub has the fresh, invigorating scents of both ginger and cinnamon!

1 cup sea salt
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 cup almond oil or olive oil

Mix all ingredients together, then gently rub over your damp skin (except your face) to slough off dry skin. Rinse with warm water. "

DD and I made one once from lavender oil and sugar. It was great. Sorry, I don't remember the amounts, but as Bee said the consistency of an icee is good.

I think the essential oils may help mine last so long, I don't know. I mostly use citrusy scents, so the acidic content may keep my oils from breaking down, not sure.
