As of right now we just sell eggs, $5 for a dozen. Covers feed and little things we need.
I am currently trying to hatch more ducks so I can have more laying eggs.
A personal friend of mine has been selling a dozen duck eggs for $15! Little more money on that end.

Are folks buying those duck eggs for eating or hatching? I don't even like ducks - but if I could sell their eggs for that much - I'd get some, lol.

They sell them just for eating, I don't mind the taste of them but they are great for baking. My girlfriend makes pancakes with them and they are so fluffy and thick, really fills you up.
I bought the 2 ducks as a spur of the moment kind of deal, after hearing about those duck egg prices though it really got me interested lol!

We had ducks before we had chickens, but DS turned out to be allergic to duck eggs so we got rid of them and went with chickens instead. I like that the chickens don't make a big wet mess like the ducks, and they are friendlier. They also will eat more of the scraps than the ducks did (they were awfully picky) We had one that went broody late last fall but I didn't think she would be able to keep the chicks alive that close to winter, so I collected the eggs. We were hoping that she would hatch some this spring, but the neighbor's dog got into the yard, and OF COURSE that was the one she killed.

Around here chicken hatching eggs run $25-35 per doz!

Glad you folks have a good market. Here, the market is saturated, prices are depressed. Even chicks at feed stores are not selling. I was at a hardware store the other day, and they had a bin full of EE pullets , and an other bin of SR RL Wyandottes that were almost completely feathered.

Eating eggs don't sell as well. Too many $1-2 dz at stores. Now, the "organic, free range" ones run $5 per. Of course we ALL know the difference in saying & doing. So, I get $3 dz for my truly free range, etc. It helps with feed, which is what I try for. Several customers do buy JUST because of the great taste of mine over the "store" ones.

I live in a community that has a dense housing population about 30-50 miles out, then scattered large lot/small acreage, then the larger farms. The farms have been taken by developers over the years. Most communities allow hens in backyards. More people in those areas have small yard gardens than some I see near me...with huge yards. It's all in what you "want" most often. We have NUMEROUS farmers markets. Big business. They are well attended.

I'm far enough out to have all that plus livestock and veggie auctions. PLUS good weather, most of the time. At least very tolerable, few extremes.

Got me interested too! What kind of ducks do you have?

I currently have 1 male mallard and a female american Pekin duck.
Since I only have 1 female I don't sell very many eggs at the moment, usually people will grab 1 or 2 when they come to get a dozen chicken eggs.
I currently have duck 1 egg that is looking like it will hatch next week and also a couple chicken eggs so the flock will be slowly getting bigger lol.
