I don't own any fine washables anymore. The peroxide in the homemade oxyclean is already diluted, so I don't know if it'd mess up colors. I have used it in the washer with colors before with no problems. My washer only fills up about 1/3 full of water at the first wash, so it'd be really diluted then.
I also use Dawn on major greasy stains, but most of the time I just hit the stain with some of the homemade laundry soap. Other times I grap the bar of Zote and rub some on before it goes in the washer.
The easiest thing for me lately is to set my washer on the soak cycle and just add about 1/3 to 1/2 cup of borax to the load. I was shocked at how much whiter the socks were after one soaking.
