the largest tobacco tax increase in history. It's $1 a pack on cigarettes....but a 2000% (yes, thousand) increase on loose tobacco. It's to pay for childrens healthcare, in theory. It will never work and is doomed to failure.

Interesting. I've turned off most news and don't keep after like I used to. Why is it you think it won't work if this is the plan?

I've only smoked for a few years, but I'm afraid if I don't stop soon I'm going to cause some permanent damage to my lungs. I'd like to use a method to stop that doesn't involve patches, or drugs. Patches didn't work for me anyway. Also, reducing my intake doesn't work. I need something that involves going cold turkey.

It's amazing how much smoking physically effects your brain. I can feel the changes when I do stop.

Also, are there ways to clean your lungs quicker?

I have read that after quitting smoking, the lungs revert to their healthy state in just a few years (that is, if you haven't developed emphysema or tumors). I would think that hydrating yourself sufficiently would probably help to "clean" your lungs in as quick a way as possible.

I used to have a chart that showed how long it would take for things like the
lungs to go back to being comparative to those of a non-smoker. Wish I knew
where it is now... some of the more serious things took 10 or 15 years, but
it was fascinating to know these things after I quit.
