How many people here are prepared for an emergency?

Oh wow.... that does NOT sound good. Kinda makes you want to start hoarding water in case something like this happens again! Hope they get it straightened out quickly!

Obviously y'all need a Budweiser brewery. Not a beer drinker, but when an area is wiped out by a hurricane, Budweiser steps it up and bottles water, ships to the affected area-free. I do love those awesome Clydesdale horses..... disappointed in the Super Bowl commercials this year-NO CLYDESDALES!

On a more serious note, look how easy this happened. Look how badly so many people are affected. Such a simple thing, but it sure packs a whallop.

I got more details finally. A pipe burst at the co-op in a nearby village, due to the cold weather we had. Apparently it spilled 25,000 GALLONS of kerosene in the nearby river. I was talking to a friend yesterday evening, he's worried, not about us so much, but the farmers, the horse racing stud (Coolmore) which is a few miles from me and has so many animals to water… Not to mention all the cows, horses, ponies and the wild animals and birds :( When I first heard of this it sounded like a small incident. It's not!

Oh wow....you're right. Not a small incident at all. So sorry to see this happen and the impact it is having on so many people and animals. Hope you have good access to water that they bring in.

I'm confused by what we can and cannot do with the water we do have. They say we can wash ourselves with it, but not use it to wash clothes and flush the toilet?

That is confusing...I'm not sure I'd want to wash my body or my clothes with kerosene infused water... Maybe some baby wipes for personal hygiene are in order, lol!

Thankfully I have face cleaning wipes here! Those will do, but gosh, I can't not have a shower until the middle of next week!

gather all the charcoal you can find, get some sand and gravel. Layer that stuff in a bucket and make a filter. Charcoal will absorb chemicals. I wouldn't recommend drinking it, but it should be safe enough for hygiene, cleaning etc.
