How to get water from well with no power?

I thought black was for algae control, as algae needed sunlight to grow? I know white reflects but surely not all? Black would absorb heat but sunlight could not penetrate it.

If you put on a good layer of white paint, not much if any light will come through. This is *different than* having white plastic, which is translucent. The reason for white rather than black paint is just to keep the water cooler.
