Keep in mind that youll want the opening high if you have a cat that pees standing up.
>.> How else would they pee? Lying down? Standing on their back two feet?

Amira keeps Pudding peeing IN the box by following her to the litter and making sure she goes all the way in. We have a GINORMOUS box and Pudding STILL pees over the edge (I keep puppy training pads there now) when she gets distracted on her way in. If she took two steps further in the giant box with plenty of room, she'd be fine. Little retard also BACKS OUT of the litter box instead of turning around. *baffled*

But I'll use this method next time I replace.

No liners here... clawed cats = shredded liners.

Abifae, I saw many cats do that at the boarding kennel. We had a few boarders who could always manage to go just outside the litterbox, unless you gave them a covered one, no matter how large the box.

SD, she doesn't EVER miss on the uncovered one. I think she gets nervous. But the covered is by my bed and I am NOT taking it off. lol.

Another good thing about the covered litterbox made from a tote, it is much easier to hide in the decor of your home than a normal litterbox. I have one under a big table in the living room, the table has a tablecloth over it and the cats have a nice little hidey hole to go into and go potty.

To clean, I just take the whole lid off and dump it and then hose it outside, set it back up and flip the tablecloth back down. Very easy! I have another hiding in the bathroom, with only the front of the tote exposed to view and the hidey hole exposed under another piece of furniture.

They also cost very little compared to covered litterboxes.

I've had two store-bought cat litter boxes designed that dogs could not get into them and were very expensive (donated to me, I did not buy them). Neither worked at all, but these ones will keep your dog out of the litterbox, 100 percent. Even if the dog is little enough to make it through the hole (on the top) they do not have the dexterity of a cat to climb in and out. I make the hole about the size of a quaker oats oatmeal container circle if that makes sense, make five to six inches across or less.
