Dace, I got some starter in the dehydrator for you :D. Its on the lowest heat, so should be just fine, I hope. We will be out of town Sunday and Monday, so I'll pop it in the mail on Tuesday.

Yay! Thank you :)

In the meantime I have moved my 'hopes it will turn into starter' starter into the warm laundry room. I hope it sparks to life :/

Great news!

My *soon to be starter* starter is showing signs of life :woot
Apparently it likes the warm laundry room.

Of course, I am not sure if it is the life forms that I want, but hey, I'll take any sign of life right now.

Off to feed my baby her first meal :D

Feeding #2

This morning I checked on my starter and it had *explanded* and settled, so I fed it for the second time. First I gave it a good stir to aerate it then poured of half into a clean jar. Mixed up the fresh rye flour and water( about 1/4 c flour and a little less than 1/2 c filtered water) and added that to the new clean jar. Re-covered and placed back into the laundry room.

Once I get to between feeding 4-6 I will swith to white flour.

I decided to post what I am doing to help anyone else who decided to try starting a starter!

How is your DD doing? Enjoying her summer?
She is doing great, thanks! She has been sleeping in..finally! I'm so proud! Hitting those benchmarks right on target. Ahhhh, it is so quiet here!

Anyhoo, sounds like your starter is doing great!!

ORChick, would you mind giving us directions on how to dehydrate a starter for shipment? What temp, how long etc. Thanks!

Just enjoying reading about yur experiment, Dace. I'd love to start one up again myself. but right now I am too overwhelmed with all the chores that need doing as it is. So I will vicariously experiment through you on this one. ;)
