Thanks for the post. :)

My grandma used to do it that way (not sure about inner plastic though?) but it's been a long time.

I'll have to look and see if I can find the paper and hopefully can afford it. Wonder if Costco has it, or I can get it from a butcher supply or something??? I'll have to look around. :)

Thanks SO MUCH for the info. Maybe I can hold off reorganizing my freezer until I can find some.

Though the price of meat lately ... I used to stock up tremendously when things were on sale, and that was good. I had a commercial freezer almost full last November. Not much has been worth buying since then, so I've mostly had to eat what I had stored. I still have a good supply though. Hehe, I think I may have actually had about 3 years' worth of meat in there, for me, when you consider it's supplemented with a rooster here or there and a good supply of rabbits. :)

Thanks again, so much!!! :)

I was wondering if we could use brown paper bags instead, maybe lard them or wax them. I don't like the plastic, but, oh, well, the meat is precious. I used two layers of butcher paper, the inner layer with the paper against the meat, and the outer layer with the plastic against the inner wrap, so there wouldn't be plastic against my meat.

Maybe....hmm.....greased brown paper on the meat and then a layer of plastic or butcher's paper on the outside??? I'll have to experiment with store-bought meat before next fall. Unless anyone else already has....?

I thought of that, too! Have you tried it? Does it keep freezer burn away? I'd think it would.

Works fine!
It insulates nicely too.
When family and friends are visiting, and they are taking fish or other meat home with them, we layer newsprint and foil several times, wrap it in the center of all the clothes in the suitcase, and it stays frozen.
