Tractor brand alliances are as bad as cars! The BF doesn't like the gas/brake rocker pedal style of the Kubota. I haven't driven one, so I don't know. He agrees they're tough tractors, but it's an ergonomic preference I think. And don't worry, he'll work on the tractor anyway, LOL. He's already trying to figure out how to put a booster pump on the hydraulic system so it can be more powerful. And honestly, from the way this tractor looks, there shouldn't be much to work on. We'll see, but at least it is new with a warranty for a while. They also have some really nice innovations that make it easy to take care of, which is the biggest key in not needing to do repair things in the first place. The mower deck actually has a hose attachment so that you can spray it out after you finish mowing, so the grass doesn't get caked underneath. The entire loader assembly comes off by itself, so you basically un-pin it, and detach the hydraulic lines (Which are all color coded) and then back away from it and it rocks right off and has a kick stand that engages to hold it up.
He told his dad, who proceeded to tell him he didn't know why he was buying a tractor and not just buying a zero turn mower. I told him you should have told your dad BECAUSE POOP. I also told him that he should tell his dad that he's not allowed to borrow it if he's going to have that attitude. I really hope he doesn't borrow it, but I know eventually he's going to ask.
This weekend was pretty productive. Saturday morning we headed down and took care of the horses, and then dropped off a light that the BF had replaced at the ReStore for donation. We checked to see if they had any exterior doors, but they didn't, so then we got back we got things organized to make a dump run. The BF cleaned out more stuff out of the shed so that we won't have to deal with that later during the great shed reconstruction. All of that took way longer than we really wanted to, but that's the way it rolls sometimes. The dump was BUSY, they had the line wrapped around an extra building to keep people from waiting in the road outside the dump, which is where we started. It felt good to get rid of a lot of that crap that had been lying around. We moved the tools under the new shed floor so that they are already out of the old shed. Beyond that we didn't get a whole lot done. I had to head back down to the horses, and then we ate dinner when I got back. We were getting ready to relax for the evening, and the BF went out the front door to go look at something, and we saw our neighbor ride down the road with her kiddos to take flowers to our next door neighbor, who has cancer. We hung around for a minute to see if we could say hello to her since we hadn't officially met her yet, just her husband. We ended up chatting for about 45 minutes, and she shared some orange crush that the made up to bring to our neighbor's sisters, who weren't at the house. The whole street is like a family, LOL. It was great to finally meet her and talk.
Sunday I got up and headed out to the barn to get the morning chores done, and then down to cowboy and coyote's place. We were going to get the manure cleaned up for them, finally. I got there before the BF came down with the pickup truck, and so I got things organized, and moved the horses up in to the upper pasture so we could keep all the gates open around the barn. They weren't too pleased about that, but oh well. The BF got there, and so I drove over to KD's farm to pick up the bobcat he was letting us use, and drove back to my friend's place. It's super exciting following a bobcat that only goes hardly 10 mph on a road that's 40mph and people do 55+mph on it.... Thankfully it's only about 200 yards from KD's driveway to my friend's driveway. I wish we could cut through the other neighbor's yard, but there's too many trees to make it through, and we wouldn't want to tear up the grass anyway (plus it's super boggy through there). It only took about 2 hours to clean up the paddocks and get all the manure piled up into one pile close to the gate. It was about lunch time, and the BF wanted to go look at a house for sale for his brother, who is deployed. I knew it wasn't going to work out for several reasons based on the pictures, but he insisted on going. And then he insisted on stopping by our house first to get a clean shirt since he'd been in the bobcat and was covered in poop dust. It took us 3 hours to grab lunch and go to see that house and get back to my friend's to keep working. The next step was loading the manure into the pickup, and driving it around to KD's farm compost pile and dumping it. 11 pickup truck loads and 5 hours later we finished. We were EXHAUSTED and dirty. The BF grabbed pizza on the way home, and we pretty much stuffed our faces and then headed straight for the shower, and then collapsed into bed. I'm just SO glad that Cowboy and Coyote don't have to walk through manure anymore, and this will be a big chunk of the down payment for the tractor! We'll stop by over there next Saturday when they're back home again to chat about the rest of the work that needs to be done plus discuss how all this payment stuff is going to work.
While we were working I also texted TW who is our other friend and neighbor of Cowboy and Coyote's owners and let her know we had access to the bobcat and could come do any clearing out that she needed, and she said she'd love to have her run-in shed cleaned out, too. I was looking as we drove by and there was still a lot of water around the shed from the excessive amount of rain that we've had, so I don't know when we can that done without tearing everything up, but hopefully soon, because that $$ will go to the tractor fund, too!
As we were working, the BF commented how awesome it was going to be to mow our own grass. I laughed and said are we going to fight over who mows? I get home first most of the time so I'll have an advantage... He said that's fine, you can mow, I'll find SOMETHING to do with the tractor! Fine by me! Ha!!
