I needed to get the rear seat belt replaced in my Honda. Not the middle lap belt either. I laughed when I called the dealer and asked for a quote.

So DH had gotten a parts car the other day and was working on striping it when it hit me. I can do this. So I did. I took out the seat belt out of the parts car and put it in my car. I have the bruised knuckles to prove it. It was tricky to get the trim off and the seat out but I did it. Only had to ask DH for a socket extension I couldn't find. YAY!!! New seat belt. All for the low low cost of NOTHING except some scrapes.

And because you did it yourself even the scrapes don't hurt. Anytime I do something for the first time all by myself those scrapes just make me smile.

That is great! I have gone to the junk yard for parts for vehicles. It is a lot cheaper and usually not too hard to do. Since you usually have to take the part off the salvaged vehicle, you learn how to do it.

Congrats on your accomplishment. The dealers so overcharge for everything. I had a mouse chew a hose. My car would not pass smog. Honda gave me a 295.00 estimate. Dh found the part for 3.50 cents and replaced it himself.

Where there is a will there is a way!!!

Great job!

Way to go! :weee
I too get all miffed about how much they charge to do things when the parts are only about 1/10th the cost!
Lucky for me a girlfriend from back in High School married a fella with a pull your own junk yard! They have let me get stuff for my car at 1/2 the going rate- we had a Kia Sportage and the glass head light part got cracked and was holding water-new from Kia over $200! just for the part!:ep
15 minutes and a bit of blue language later and I (well mostly hubby and his muscles)ended up with a new one for $20. I think the oddest thing I ever hunted for out there was new knobs for a friends stove--sure they let me look thru the stuff, but the laughing was heard all the way thru the junk!:gig
I was lucky to grow up with family that would try to fix first and then go to a repair shop if all else fails--I just figure that-It is broken already, what more harm can I do?

In the $400 range. The part was $175 and labor was $65/hr with a 3 hour estimate.

It took me about 1.5 hours and I am a girl with out the tools a shop would have.
